Art in the Renaissance greatly differed from the art of the middle ages. Many artists from the Renaissance got their inspiration from the ancient Greeks and Romans, developing new styles to mimic the beauty of the art in Greece and Rome. They also used new techniques such as depth and perspective to give their pictures a new look. Many art pieces gained a lighter tone compared to the dark Gothic look of the middle ages.
As you can see, the art from the Renaissance (right) is much more detailed and realistic when compared to the art of the middle ages (left), even though they display the same religious scene.
