Here we collect ideas and information about setting up and maintaining the Yerkes Projects website, other google sites on StarsAtYerkes and other Yerkes websites.
Yerkes Young Stars website is the webspace for Yerkes Students and their projects.
The Main Yerkes Website that is managed by Jesse and Vivian. It's hosted on astro.uchicago.edu under /home/www/groups/yerkes or /astro/www/groups/yerkes on oddjob.uchicago.edu.
The Yerkes Education Outreach site at yerkesoutreach.org is managed by Kate. It is hosted by Weebly and is edited via the Weebly editing interface. The domains affiliated with the site are currently www.yerkesoutreach.org (primary) and www.yerkesoutreach.com. We bought the domains through Weebly when the site was registered.

Outdated / Inactive sites
Yerkes Blog Account on Blogger, Yerkes blog telling about events. This page is not actively maintained since 2014.
The Yerkes Outreach Wiki page on the bussard server at Yerkes. This site is used for Yerkes scheduling and contains older outreach information. The server is currently dead and there are no plans to set it up again. Please contact Marc if you need any files from it.
That server also provides a simple online data storage for Yerkes outreach.

Yerkes Public site which contains pages from the main yerkes site that are on google sites. The "Related Links" page from this site still links from the main yerkes site.
Stars at Yerkes Observatory: The main outreach site for ARCS that is managed from the ARCS Event Planning page. Margie has been working on it. - No activity since 2015.
Visions of the Universe is a public google site for sharing your own images of the night sky. Various contributors are responsible for that page. No site activity since 2015.

We could have a wordpress server on astro or stars. That would facilitate setting up and maintaining sites while giving us the freedom of setting up the site any way we want.
Does anyone have an idea for a fancy logo (Marvin the Martian?) to this site?
Centralization of the sites: A suggestion is to get a dedicated project manager instead of this Google site. There is a free project manager that also allows free online storage for file sharing. This will eliminate the need for FileSwap, and it will also organize the projects and the programs for each project (if such programs exist per project). The project manager is called Mavenlink, and it supports everything Google sites does, with the addition of several helpful features found here.Â
June 2017: The stars.uchicago.edu is now redesigned and navigation to sites has become much more simplified and easier. Grouped together links which perform similar functions and made the page relevant by deleting redundant/unused links, with suggestions from the SEO/Yerkes team -- Atreyo Pal
