Status: The finished telescopes are in the Student Office. In June 2012 we had the tubes and the boxes. The boxes were made of wood by a high school Seth and his father.
Tasks:
The solar scopes display a large image of the Sun onto a surface. They basically consist of a lens attached to a tube and a convex mirror that project a distant image onto a flat surface. The product is also available commercially under www.rainbowsymphonystore.com/soisgrforsts.html. At Yerkes we have permission to use their design and build our own scopes.
Simple tests looking at a distant light show that the necessary distance between the mirror and the end of the tube is about 15cm (6inch). - Marc
A document with instructions on how to use the SolarScopes has been created. It includes pictures. Document on SolarScopes - Caroll Karns
