- The shore path around the lake is entirely open for you to walk around! Just don't walk it all in one day unless you're used to hiking--it's a long walk. You can get down to the lake by following the path behind the South Building (the small observatory building on the south lawn).
- Kishwauketoe Nature Preserve is a lovely place to walk and see wildlife in downtown Williams Bay.
Events Summer 2017:
- Independence Day Fireworks: The Fontana fireworks are usually on the evening of the 4th. These are best viewed from down by the lake at George Williams--you can go down the path behind the South Building to the lake, and you'll probably find a lot of people sitting on the slope by the water waiting for the fireworks. It's often very buggy, though--the mosquitoes can be rather bad down there. Long-handled clothing advised. You can generally see a pretty good show from there. It officially starts 'at dusk'.
- "Art in the Park": Essentially it's an art and craft fair. Down by the lake in downtown Williams Bay. If you're into art, you might want to take a look: usually there are some interesting pieces that are fun to see. July 29–30. Times will be posted when they are known.
