This is a guide on how to install a full installation of LUbuntu on a flash drive using a Windows computer, and how to make them work with just about any computer.
For a skeletal instruction to install LUbuntu to the drive, refer between the Ubuntu guide and this guide. This guide is meant to be a supplement to the Ubuntu installation guide.
The Ubuntu guide covers it pretty well, there's really not much to do other than what they say. The only difference is that you want to use the LUbuntu image provided above.
When you get to the formatting part, choose your empty flash drive and choose to manually format the drive. You'll want to install a file system that doesn't journal. There aren't very many non journaling file systems, so you'll probably be left with ext2 as your filesystem of choice. Make 2 partitions, a booting partition and a root partition. You probably want to allocate 100MB to the /boot partition and all the rest to the / partition (this is the root partition, /root is NOT the root partition). Make sure that it's your flash drive you're formatting and not the hard drive. When you're completely sure and satisfied with the drive, accept and let the drive format. From there, follow the rest of the directions, then have it reboot.
This time don't choose to install, but rather, choose to try the live desktop. Open a terminal and follow these steps:
By the way, for more tips on how I figured out the configuration, I found the Ubuntu Forums community to be the most helpful.
Reboot, and remove the live drive. Try the option that describes the computer being used. If everything was done right, a desktop will appear on your screen.
Hopefully, all goes well.
If you absolutely need help, google the problem, see if someone else has your problem.
If you can't find anything at all, post to the Ubuntu Forums. They're super helpful and usually nice. What you should know:
If no one answers, you could try to email me. This is a last resort effort, if you haven't given up on the project yet. If you do, follow my guidelines.
If you don't follow them, you're on your own.
Good luck.
