An Iron Horse Original! Combining passing and throwing skills, this game requires players to move the ball up the court in an effort to score by ricocheting the ball off of a wall and into a goal.

A modified version of the popular game, Pickle Ball.
Just think of this as reverse volleyball and a little bit of 4-square. One of our black top favorites!
One of the newest additions to our PE program, Tchoukball is a game originally created in Switzerland that is now played throughout the world.
Throughout the year, students will have the opportunity to brush up on their passing and shooting skills in small sided scrimmages or during an exciting game of knockout.
Students will play with modified street hockey rules utilizing our hockey sticks and special pucks.
A gym favorite, students can play in optional indoor soccer tournaments with modified futsal rules
With our 12 badminton courts and 4 ping pong tables, students will practice their racket and paddle skills in small mini tournaments and competitions.
Our award winning trash can ball is an all-time favorite here at IHMS. this fast-paced game requires students to pass the ball without getting their flagged pulled. Students score points by throwing the ball into a trash can or they can challenge themselves to score more points by dunking or performing a two person alley oop.
Our gym boasts 3 small traverse walls. Throughout the year, students will work on their climbing skills, while working on communication and testing their balance and endurance.
With two separate disc golf courses, this activity combines Frisbee throwing skills with mini golf rules. Working in groups, students will make their way through our disc golf courses, challenging themselves to finish in the fewest throws as possible.
Periodically, we will offer students an opportunity to participate in team dodgeball tournaments. This challenge by choice activity has many variations and is a student-favorite at IHMS.
In addition to the many team sports we have at Iron Horse, students will also participate in a variety of different fitness circuits. Circuit activities focus on each aspect of health related fitness covered in the CA fitnessgram.
A modified version of traditional Team Handball, students will work on their throwing and catching skills, working together to score on the opposing team's goal.
This modified, non-contact game introduces students to the basics of rugby play. Using a real rugby ball, students work together to run or kick the ball down the field.
Each year culminates in a two week, school-wide Olympic competition. Students are put into teams and choose a country to represent. Complete with a medal ceremony at the end, this competition is the highlight of our year and allows students to experience the true meaning of sportsmanship.
Ultimate is essentially football with a frisbee. This is a non-contact game where students work together as a team to throw and pass a frisbee with the goal of catching it in the opposing team's end zone.
With the help of our Ed fund and IHMS PTA, we have been able to purchase 25 stationary mountain bikes for student use each week. Stationary bikes are used for cross training during our weekly cardio days, and as an alternate to running for students who are on modified activity due to injury.
We believe in using a variety of sports and fitness technology to enhance our various programs at Iron Horse Middle School. Students have access to GPS watch technology to assist in pacing during their mile runs, as well as wrist-based heart rate monitors to ensure students are working at an appropriate intensity level during HIIT workouts.
In addition, we use Sprint Timer to collect accurate run times during a variety of speed and agility drills throughout the year.
We have a number of speed and agility drills to challenge students throughout the year including: the 40 yd dash, clock drill, arrow drill, agility ladders, and dot drill.
One of our newest games is 9 Square in the Air. A combination of volleyball and four square, each player must hit the ball up and out of their square to stay in the game. The goal is to advance to the center square and stay there for as long as possible.
Throughout the year, students will take part in a variety of team challenges designed to test their motor skill development and encourage team work with their peers.
