1. Graduation ceremonies plans were shared
2. Terra will replace AC units at Liverpool school property to make it more energy efficient to reduce the utilities cost for the schools.
3. Enrollment: Rochester school has a gap in kindergarten registration but the gap may close over summer. The other schools have large waiting list.

SAS
1. Saturday, June 1st, 2024: Our talented Syracuse Academy of Science High School Robotics teams participated in the Museum of Science & Technology's (MOST) Rocket Challenge! It was an incredible experience where our students showcased their engineering skills and creativity in constructing a model rocket. We are proud of their hard work, dedication, and team spirit. Thank you to the MOST for hosting such an inspiring event and providing our students with this fantastic opportunity.
2. Saturday, June 1st, 2024: The Syracuse Academy of Science Middle School STEAM club soared through the MOST's Rocket Challenge! SANY Experiment 626 and Team Total Eclipse navigated the inspection phase and carefully packed cotton balls around their egg astronauts. SANY Experiment 626's rocket reached an impressive apogee of 195 feet, with their egg surviving the journey! They secured 20th place overall. Although Team Total Eclipse faced a challenge when their parachute didn't deploy, resulting in no recorded data, both teams had an incredible time and are already excited to return next year. Great job, STEAM club!
3. Thursday, May 30th, 2024: Syracuse Academy of Science Middle School students enjoyed a night of games, crafts, and pizza. It was a great way to let loose after a month of testing! Great job, Atoms, for your hard work and perseverance throughout the testing period. We are so proud of you!
4. Wednesday, May 29th, 2024: Thank you to WCNY for hosting the Syracuse Academy of Science Middle School STEAM Club on their Innovate to Educate Radio Show! Atoms discussed their experience participating in MACNY’s Future Women in STEM program at the Museum of Science & Technology (MOST.) During the radio show, the scholars passionately discussed the various activities and projects they engaged in as part of the program, including spending part of their Saturdays learning from and working with women in the STEM field. They highlighted how the Future Women in STEM initiative has significantly enriched their understanding of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The program provided hands-on learning experiences and connected them with inspiring female role models in STEM fields, further igniting their passion and ambition to pursue careers in these areas. We are incredibly proud of our students' dedication and enthusiasm. Their participation in the Innovate to Educate Radio Show is a testament to their hard work and the supportive community the SAS fostered. Stay tuned for more updates, and be sure to listen to the podcast to hear directly from our talented students about their inspiring experiences. This is just the beginning of their journey in STEM, and we can't wait to see what they achieve next!
5. Tuesday, May 21st, 2024: Congratulations to Syracuse Academy of Science senior Migual Mathis! Migual earned a table to present his research, "Computational Analysis of Apigenin as a Protein-Based Therapeutic Targeting MUCIN-1," at the 2024 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Los Angeles, California.Migual was selected from the MOST's CNY Science & Engineering Fair to share his research at the May 11 - May 17 event, the world's largest high school STEM competition. The event included university judges, engineers and scientists, private and federal research center representatives, and post-doctoral fellows. In addition, Migual had the opportunity to present his research to the public and other honorees at the science fair.ISEF hosted events for participants throughout the week, including a college fair, pin exchange, and opening and closing ceremonies. A highlight of the trip was that Migual was selected to livestream a question to aerospace engineer and NASA astronaut Dr. Janette Epps while she was at the International Space Station.

7. Friday, May 17th, 2024: Senator Rachel May visited Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School to present certificates to two 4th-grade students! These talented scholars had their artwork selected for the NYSATA Legislative Exhibit, which showcases student art in the Legislative Office Building in Albany. To celebrate this achievement, Senator May was invited to present a certificate to each student. During her visit, Senator May also spoke with the 4th graders about the role and responsibilities of a Senator. We are incredibly proud of our students and grateful for Senator May's visit!
8. Wednesday, May 15th, 2024: Several Syracuse Academy of Science High School Atoms and teachers recently took a break from their busy schedules to enjoy one of America's favorite pastimes - baseball! They attended the Mets Education Day and had a blast despite the rain cutting the last two innings short. It was a home run of a day filled with learning, laughter, and team spirit!
9. Saturday, May 11th, 2024: The Syracuse Academy of Science Middle School Steam Club attended their last Future Women in STEM event at the MOST. This week, scholars went through the design process with women from TESSY Plastics. Their task was to design something to keep them dry when going to school in the rain. Local media group WCNY joined us, talking to the girls about STEM and the different speakers they have listened to at The Future Women in STEM events.
10. Saturday, May 4th, 2024: Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School's Atoms Adventure Club recently went to Pratt's Falls! During this visit, the group hiked along a creek that led to the waterfall. While hiking, Atoms identified salamanders, bugs, fish, and a massive bullfrog! It was an authentic outdoor experience. Stay tuned for the next adventure!

1. Monday, April 22nd, 2024: KC Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse Atoms partnered up to practice reading their Skills Unit 6 ‘Kit’ book. Here, we have students practicing different reading strategies by using pointer fingers and taking turns reading to each other. The scholars have been working hard to apply the skills they’ve learned when working in groups or independently!

1. Thursday, May 23rd, 2024: Citizenship & Science Academy of Rochester Atoms experienced life during the Colonial era on their recent field trip to the Genesee Country Village & Museum! Students had the incredible opportunity to visit the blacksmith shop, printer, dressmaker, potter, shoemaker, and more. They learned firsthand about the crafts and daily lives of people from that period, making history come alive uniquely and engagingly. It was an educational and memorable experience for all!

1. Thursday, May 9th, 2024: Regent Patrick Mannion of the NY State Board of Regents visited with Syracuse Academy of Science 3rd graders! Regent Mannion explained what the Board of Regents does and engaged with our scholars about their dreams and aspirations. He also read a story about presidents and a girl who dreams of being the first female president of the United States! Thank you to Regent Mannion for visiting us, and we hope to have another visit soon!
2. Thursday, May 2nd, 2024: Students earning the top dojo points in each Syracuse Academy of Science Middle School class were rewarded with a delicious fancy lunch as a reward. Students are rewarded with dojos each month for being on time, prepared, participating in class, and being good friends/citizens. At the end of the month, the dojos are totaled, and the students with the most are rewarded with different activities. Everyone gets a clean slate at the start of the following month Keep up the great work, Atoms!
3. Friday, April 19th, 2024: The incredible 6th-grade students at Syracuse Academy of Science embarked on a mission to positively impact our planet in honor of Earth Day! Armed with shovels, smiles, and enthusiasm, they rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty to plant five trees on the school campus thanks to a grant from the Central New York Community Foundation and CCE Onondaga's help. With each dig into the ground, Atoms showed that they're not just learning about environmental stewardship—they're living it. They understand that small actions can make a big difference, and they're proving it by taking tangible steps to protect our planet for future generations. As they worked together, 6th-grade scholars learned about trees' vital role in combating climate change, purifying the air we breathe, and providing habitat for countless wildlife species. Through this hands-on experience, our students are planting trees and seeds of awareness, responsibility, and compassion. They demonstrate their commitment to being active stewards of the environment and shaping a brighter, greener future.Happy Earth Day from Syracuse Academy of Science, where every day is an opportunity to nurture our planet and inspire positive change!
4. Wednesday, April 17th, 2024: Ms. Tammy from Chartwells stopped by Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School for a Nutrition Education lesson with Kindergarten! This was extra exciting for our Atoms as it was their first experience in the cafeteria! Ms. Tammy whipped up some tasty strawberry banana smoothies, and the students each got to sample one. One Kindergartener said it tasted like "fireworks in a cup!" Thanks to Ms. Tammy and Chartwells for taking the time to treat our students and teach them about healthy living!
5. Saturday, April 13th, 2024: The Syracuse Academy of Science Middle School Steam Club happily spent another Saturday at the Museum of Science & Technology for the Future Women in STEM event. This month, the girls built their own magazine/folder holder with the help of Merit Alliance. Excellent job, Atoms!
6. Friday, April 12th, 2024: Ninth and tenth-grade Syracuse Academy of Science Atoms busted out their snazziest attire, cranked up the tunes, and threw down for the gala on Friday, April 12th! It was a night packed with laughter, good vibes, and unforgettable memories.
7. Thursday, April 11th, 2024: Did you know National Teach Children to Save Day was on April 25th? Since Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School was on Spring Break, the school celebrated with Dollar Dog Day on Thursday, April 11th. Julie Murad-Caruso from Empower and Dollar Dog spoke with second graders about saving, spending, and sharing money! Scholars were active participants in the discussion, stating that we save money to buy a house and that we can share money by giving to people in need! Dollar Dog stuck around for some pictures and to give a water bottle to every 2nd grader. Thanks, Empower, for stopping by!
8. Friday, March 22nd, 2024: We are thrilled to announce that our dedicated team of students clinched first place at the Syracuse Academy of Science Middle School MathCounts Competition! These young mathematicians showcased exceptional problem-solving skills, resilience, and teamwork. MathCounts Competition is not just about crunching numbers; it's about critical thinking, strategy, and mastering mathematical concepts.A big shoutout to our amazing students for their outstanding performance and for representing our school with honor and excellence.
9. Friday, March 22nd, 2024: Seventh-grade Syracuse Academy of Science Middle School students recently enjoyed some friendly competition during a field trip to The Ultimate Goal in Marcellus! Atoms were split into groups that rotated between soccer, dodgeball, kickball, European handball, and capture the flag. Students demonstrated sportsmanship and teamwork!
10. Thursday, March 21st, 2024: Syracuse Academy of Science second graders recently welcomed two women from SKS Orthodontics. SKS Orthodontics is an orthodontist office in North Syracuse. They spoke with our Atoms about caring for our teeth. They used a giant mouth display to show how to care for our teeth properly. 2nd-graders enjoyed the presentation and learned some helpful ways to care for their oral health! We were excited to be able to display another example of extraordinary women from the community.

2. Friday, April 26th, 2024: Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse 4th-grade students made chocolate hummus with a guest speaker from Chartwells, Tammy Pittsley. Atoms learned which ingredients go into traditional hummus and how that food affects people's moods when eaten. Then they made chocolate hummus and dipped it in graham crackers.

4. Thursday, April 18th, 2024: Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse Middle School is celebrating academic success! The school held an awards ceremony to recognize the scholar's academic achievements in Quarter 3. Teachers, parents, and students gathered to applaud the accomplishments of these young scholars, acknowledging their efforts and commitment to learning. It was a moment of pride for everyone involved, highlighting the importance of recognizing and encouraging academic success as a cornerstone of education.
5. Tuesday, April 9th, 2024: A wave of celebration swept through Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse as 3rd through 5th graders gathered to honor student success from the 2022/2023 NYS Test! Students who soared to level 3 or 4 on the exam were rewarded with gift cards from the Terra Science and Education Foundation, acknowledging their outstanding achievements! Huge thanks to Terra Science for their incredible generosity, and kudos to all our scholars for your dedication and hard work paying off!
6. Tuesday, April 9th, 2024: Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse fifth graders had a blast learning about nutrition with Tammy Pittsley! Together, they whipped up some scrumptious strawberry banana smoothies while discussing all the fruity combos you can come up with for a deliciously healthy concoction. Turns out, smoothies are the ultimate blend of yum!

1. Monday, April 15th, 2024: Utica Academy of Science Kindergarteners aren't just learning about butterflies in books—they're witnessing the magic firsthand! Each kindergarten class has transformed into a mini butterfly sanctuary with their own habitat. From tiny caterpillars to beautiful butterflies, these scholars are on a captivating journey through the mesmerizing life cycle of these winged wonders!
2. Tuesday, April 9th, 2024: Talk about a field trip to remember! Utica Academy of Science third graders experienced the Women's World Championship hockey game at the Adirondack Bank Stadium! Surrounded by the electrifying atmosphere, Atoms witnessed top-tier women's hockey as Germany faced off against China, showcasing skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship at its finest. But it wasn't just about the game; it was a day of connection and camaraderie as our scholars bonded with peers from Utica and Syracuse schools. The students enjoyed cheering for their favorite team, taking pictures with mascots, and learning skills and techniques for scoring a goal!

Thursday, March 28th, 2024: Utica Academy of Science Junior-Senior High hosted jazz icon "Doctuh" Michael Woods.Scholars and families soaked in the soulful sounds of jazz with Doc Woods and his orchestra. Special thanks to Mr. Bryant for the introduction. Smooth jazz that truly soothed our souls!

1. Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024: Citizenship & Science Academy of Rochester kindergarteners had a blast learning about pushes and pulls on their field trip to Bowl-A-Roll Lanes! They're also mastering concepts of direction and strength back in the classroom.

1. Student Academic Data: Student academic data was presented based on benchmark tests, Start testing, and last year’s performances, district and state averages. Low performing grades were discussed in length. Lack of teachers has been noted as a major concern.

1. Sunday, April 7th, 2024: Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School Science Fair Winners had the fantastic opportunity to showcase their projects in the CNY Science & Engineering Fair hosted at the Most. Scholars saw projects from students of all ages across Central New York and presented their own projects to the judges. We are very proud of how hard they worked to prepare and how well they represented our school at the fair! Congratulations to Isaiah, Ti’jadin, Daniel, and Jayce for participating! Congratulations to Angelina and Everly for receiving honors! Congratulations, Atoms! Keep up the excellent work!
2. Sunday, March 24th, 2024: Each Year, Region 3 of the New York State Art Teachers Association sponsors an exhibit at the Beaver Lake Nature Center. The exhibit is titled "Student Art-Naturally." Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School's Art Teacher, Ms. Alonso-Bergevin, is the exhibit's coordinator! This year, artwork from eight SAS Elementary students was featured. On Sunday, March 24th, there was an Artists' Reception, and students received a certificate to honor their participation. Congratulations to these artists!
3. Saturday, March 23rd, 2024: Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary's Everly showcased her incredible spelling talents at the Regional Spelling Bee! Remember when Everly finished 3rd place at our school spelling bee? 4. Friday, March 22nd, 2024: Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School celebrated 4th graders for their efforts on last year's NYS ELA and Math tests. Terra Science and Education provided gift cards for students who achieved 3's and/or 4's on their tests. This year, we passed out the most awards ever, with 33 students being recognized! Four of those scholars received a four on BOTH tests! School Dean Mrs. Miller also has an important message for all Atoms: Even if they didn't get an award this year, and even if they don't get one next year, as long as every student tries their best, we are always going to be so proud of them. Great job, students!
5. Tuesday, March 19th, 2024: Syracuse Academy of Science High School is a college prep school. Our mission is to graduate college-ready and civic-minded students, emphasizing high-quality instruction and a curriculum that has been developed to allow every student to attend college. As part of our comprehensive College Prep program, a group of eager High School juniors attended the highly anticipated National Association for College Counseling (NACAC) college fair. This invaluable opportunity allowed our ambitious scholars to engage directly with representatives from various colleges across the United States! Amidst the vibrant atmosphere of the fair, our students jumped on the chance to glean insights, ask questions, and forge connections that will shape their collegiate journey.
6. Friday, March 8th, 2024: Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School invited two guest speakers for International Women's Day. Marlena Jackson of the Syracuse Police Department spoke with third graders about her role as a police officer in the community. Sharon Alestalo from Syracuse University's Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Program spoke with fourth graders about the importance of STEM education and working in the field as a woman. We are so grateful to have such fantastic role models in our community.

This time, they visited SUNY Geneseo and learned all about the programs offered and campus life. Wednesday, March 27th, 2024: To culminate Women's History Month, the 5th-grade students at Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse were treated to an enriching experience with the distinguished guest speaker, Lauren Kochian. As the esteemed President of the Museum of Science & Technology in Syracuse, Mrs. Kochian embodies female leadership and achievement. As she graciously told her "herstory," Mrs. Kochian shared her expertise and imparted invaluable insights from her personal journey. In a moment that resonated deeply with the students, Mrs. Kochian paused to address them directly, providing a glimpse into the challenges and triumphs that have shaped her career. During her engaging presentation, Mrs. Kochian stressed the critical significance of early exposure to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. She emphasized how cultivating STEM skills from a young age lays the foundation for future success in careers and life. 2. Wednesday, February 28th, 2024: Fifth-grade Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse students visited SUNY ESF. The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry is a public research university that focuses on studying the environment and natural resources. They offer a variety of academic programs for students interested in science, engineering, design, policy, communication, and management of natural resources and the environment.During their visit, 5th grade classes participated in activities involving Hydrology Exploration, Urban Ecosystems, Paper Science, and Water Cycle Dice. Atoms had lunch together on campus and learned more about the college during an admissions chat with SUNY ESF staff! It was an excellent experience for all and a wonderful addition to our college visit series!

3. Thursday, March 7th, 2024: Utica Academy of Science families joined us for the Mohawk Valley Junior Frontiers Program Information Night. The Mohawk Valley Junior Frontiers Club was organized to create a structured program for developing leadership, scholarship, citizenship, and community service skills in a group of selected young people. The program seeks to enhance the potential of young people by exposing them to a series of experiences designed to strengthen them as individuals, introduce them to different facets of the community, and stimulate their interest in becoming future leaders. Established in 1996, Junior Frontiers is the largest all-voluntary civic youth organization predominantly for students of color based in Central New York. We had an inspiring evening sharing insights about how the nonprofit organization is dedicated to empowering students in the community. From academic excellence to professional development, civic responsibility, and self-esteem, Junior Frontiers is all about shaping bright futures! If your child is in 4th-12th grade and would like to become part of the Junior Frontiers club, they are encouraged to fill out an application on their website.

Saturday, March 9th, 2024: The Syracuse Academy of Science Middle School STEAM Club is building future frontiers and women in STEM. The club went to the Museum of Science and Technology for a presentation from the Future Women in STEM event. The girls learned about how they are using drones in the medical field. Unfortunately, they could not fly the drones outside due to the weather, but students saw a video of them delivering medical supplies to the hospital instead!
Thursday, March 7th, 2024: As part of our Read Across America Week, Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School students brought their best-stuffed buddies into school to read with! Reading to a stuffed friend helps students practice fluency and dictation and builds confidence. Atoms had a great time showing off their stuffies, and the stuffed friends also enjoyed their time at school for the day!
Tuesday, March 5th, 2024: Crazy, silly, frumpy, or frilly: Day 2 of Read Across America Week at Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary was Hat Day! Atoms and staff wore their favorite hats to school to celebrate their love of reading and Dr. Seuss's birthday.
Sunday, March 3rd, 2024: The Syracuse Academy of Science robotics teams "SAS ATOMS" and "NEW WAVE" showcased their talent and dedication at the MVCC Regional First Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics tournament. These teams proudly represent SANY, demonstrating exceptional skills at the qualifying games and leaving a indelible mark on the competition. Despite not advancing to the semi-finals, robotics members and coaches have dedicated countless hours to preparing their robots, committing their after-school and weekend hours to perfect them. Their participation in this tournament not only served as a testament to their hard work but also as a remarkable learning experience. We are immensely proud of our robotics teams' accomplishments and how they represent our school. Their resilience, determination, and commitment to excellence inspire us all.Congratulations, SAS ATOMS and NEW WAVE, on a job well done!

Tuesday, February 13th, 2024: Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School Math Coordinator Ms. Hershey started the second annual Math Olympics before winter break. Math Olympics is a fact-fluency competition between the 3rd and 4th graders. They will receive a bronze medal if they pass their 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, and 11 facts. They will receive a silver medal if they pass their 4, 6, and 7. Then, if they pass 8, 9, and 12s, they will get a gold medal. It is an individual competition as well as a classroom competition. The classroom with the most medals will win a prize! Stay tuned as we update you on the results of this fun competition!
Thursday, February 8th, 2024: Congratulations to the Syracuse Academy of Science Indoor Track team for a successful season and completing sectionals! Led by Coach Terry, Coach Harrison, Coach Blatche, and Coach Walker, the track team has raced to the top in several sections. Overall Top 6th Places in the meet:

Tuesday, February 27th, 2024: As part of our 28 Speakers in 28 Days event at Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse Elementary School, Pastor Alberta Abrams, a Board Member from Interfaith Works, read two excellent books to the fifth grade. Leaving two impactful thoughts behind: 1) Continue to dream regardless of age, and you will be able to "Soar" to unimaginable heights.2) Silent marching can be as impactful as using words, so continue to march in the right direction in life. The 5th-grade student body loved spending this beautiful day outside commemorating this year's Black History Month Celebration.
2. Tuesday, February 27th, 2024: Kirsten Abbott visited Mrs. Kipp and Ms. Lisa’s first-grade classroom as a 28 Speakers guest. Mrs. Abbott, a Department of Chemistry Coach at the Geneva School District, taught Atoms how chemistry relates to everyday life. It was a wonderful day enriched with history and lifelong learning to add to our Black History Month Celebrations.
3. Thursday, February 15th, 2024: Deputy Sheriff James Dixon visited Ms. Camire’s fourth-grade classroom at Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse. Deputy Dixon works with the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office. Students learned that the academy is 30 weeks long and consists of hands-on training, many tests, and various certifications. He shared that his duties are to protect and serve the citizens of Onondaga County, enforce the laws of NYS, provide first aid to those in need, and much more! Thank you, Deputy Sheriff Mr. James Dixon, for keeping our community safe and spending time in 4th grade during our 28 Speakers in 28 Days series!
4. Wednesday, February 14th, 2024: Yolanda Seegars visited the Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse Elementary School and spoke with 5th-grade students in Ms. Moe's and 3rd-grade students in Ms. Porta's classes. Ms.Seegars works at On Point for College and is the Director of Project RISE. On Point for College helps students enroll and prepare for college, graduate, transition to meaningful careers, and much more! Ms. Seegars shared her school experiences growing up and told stories about her family's resilience. She expressed her love for Black History and demonstrated different strategies to help students succeed. Thank you, Ms. Yolanda Seegars, for visiting our school and speaking with the 3rd and 5th grade Atoms!
5. Monday, February 12th, 2024: Ciera LeFlore visited Ms. Pavarini’s 3rd-grade classroom as another 28 Speakers in 28 Days guest speaker. Ms. LeFlore is a counselor at a high school in Syracuse! She spoke with Atoms about what it’s like being a school counselor, working with high school students, and why she loves her job! Ms. LeFlore also demonstrated different strategies with the class to help foster a friendly community and loving environment. Thank you for spending time with our 3rd graders! We loved learning about all the great things school counselors do to help students daily!

Tuesday, March 12th, 2024: Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente Jr. provided a warm welcome as the Utica Academy of Science delegation, which included Mr. DeRochie, Mr. Bektas, and Dr. Basic, had an insightful meeting at his office. During the meeting, the delegation had the opportunity to showcase the Utica Academy of Science model and its undeniable success in providing quality education and empowering students. They emphasized how UASCS is not just a school but a beacon of hope and opportunity for students, families, and the entire community. We're looking forward to collaborating for a brighter tomorrow!

2. Fraud on our account: External Check fraud with fake checks was detected, and laws authorities were informed. There were total of three checks used in the fraud. Since these were caught early on, there is no impact on school’s finances. Moving forward, the bank will receive our check numbers with amount to check against checks cashed against our accounts.

Tuesday, February 6th, 2024: Several of our Syracuse Academy of Science high school Atoms and our Dean of School traveled to the Capitol to participate in Charter School Advocacy Day. Our scholars were there with students from several other charter schools across the state to meet with New York State legislators and advocate for fair funding and support for Charter schools.
Saturday, February 3rd, 2024: Both Syracuse Academy of Science Robotics teams competed at Clarkson University and had an outstanding showing! FTC team SAS ATOMS achieved remarkable success by securing the THINK award and finishing the tournament as the captain of the fourth alliance team. Their dedication and critical thinking were further recognized with a second-place finish in the Innovate Award!FTC team NEW WAVE demonstrated outstanding robotics skills by winning four out of five matches during the qualifying rounds. Their exceptional teamwork and game strategy earned them a spot in the semi-finals. New Wave and its alliance members won all semi-finals and final matches and achieved the First-winning Alliance Captain award at the tournament!! New Wave Robotics members also received second place in the Motivate Award, highlighting their commitment to inspiring others. With this award, the New Wave robotics team has also advanced to the FTC Regional Championship tournament!Please join us in congratulating the SAS ATOMS and NEW WAVE on their outstanding performances at the FTC Clarkson Qualifying tournament!
Thursday, January 25th, 2024: "I wish I were an Oscar Mayer Weiner..." Maybe not, but a Binghamton University Bearcat would be pretty cool! On January 25th, several Syracuse Academy of Science High School scholars visited Binghamton University and got a bonus sighting of the iconic Weinermobile! College campus visits are just one piece of the puzzle to our college-prep curriculum.
Tuesday, January 23rd, 2024: Spring came early at Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School! In Ms. Heilig's ELL (English Language Learners) group, students cut out and made paper daffodils and then labeled the parts to practice spelling words.
Sunday, January 21st, 2024: The Syracuse Academy of Science Robotics team has done it again! The scholars attended the FTC MVCC Qualifier tournament with two teams, New Wave and SAS ATOMS. We are delighted to announce New Wave was honored with the Best Design award and second place in the Connect award, while SAS ATOMS secured the Inspire award, the highest honor at the tournament. This is the first time the robotics club has achieved the Inspire Award in 10 years! This incredible achievement has earned the SAS ATOMS a well-deserved spot in the upcoming regional championship. Also, two outstanding robotics members, Samara and Mickayla, have been nominated for the Dean's List Award at the FTC tournament. Please join us in congratulating the robotics club for this remarkable accomplishment. What a dedicated and talented team!!
Thursday, January 18th, 2024: Syracuse Academy of Science third grade Atoms struck a pose at Green Lakes Lanes in Fayetteville. Bowling is full of math problems, from calculating your total score to figuring out the correct angles to throw the ball at to knock down the most pins. 3rd graders also worked on Social Emotional skills like good sportsmanship. We hope Green Lakes Lanes enjoyed having us as much as we enjoyed being there.
Wednesday, January 17th, 2024: NYSATA asked for student help in designing the flag for the 2024 Youth Art Month! Winners were chosen from schools all over New York. Ms. AB at Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary submitted student designs and one of our 4th graders received an Honorable Mention! Way to go!!
Friday, January 12th, 2024: Syracuse Academy of Science second graders visited the Children's Museum of Oswego. This field trip had everything from a giant water table, to a huge climber, and all the science and play stations you could imagine in between. Atoms had a blast getting out of the classroom for hands-on STEM fun!
Friday, January 12th, 2024: Mrs. Tracy's third-grade class and Ms. Negron's Kindergarten class got together for some reading fun! The third graders were each given a Kindergarten buddy to read to. This is a great way to help our scholars practice their reading fluency and a way to build a sense of community in our building!

She read two books to the class, "I'm Enough" and "One Love." She gave the students words of affirmation and shared with them that they can be anything they want to be when they grow up! Atoms were so excited to learn about Dr. Rhoda and gave her lots of hugs! Thank you, Dr. Rhoda, for spending time with our first-grade friends and showing them they can do great things!
3. Thursday, February 1st, 2024: Citizenship Academy of Science Elementary School kicked off the 28 Speakers in 28 Days event. Jimmy Oliver, head of the PALS program at Syracuse police department, spoke to students in Mr. Thayer's classroom. Mr. Oliver also collaborated with our students by creating a story using the wordless book “Field Trip to the Ocean Deep” by John Hare. Mr. Oliver and our students had a wonderful time using their imaginations.Thank you, Mr. Oliver, for coming to speak to our students!
4. Tuesday, January 23rd, 2024: During lesson 14 of "Summer of The Mariposas" novel unit, in Mrs. Krahl's ELA class, Atoms created Loteria cards of a character of their choice. They worked in pairs and groups to recreate these life-like playing cards from the novel. Scholars’ playing cards needed research from online sources and their books. They also needed to make their card realistic, including two facts and what each character symbolizes. This was an excellent hands-on activity for students to practice their research skills. Great job, 6th graders!
5. Monday, January 22nd, 2024: What better way to start a National celebration than with a theme day? Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse Elementary scholars proudly wore their uniforms and celebrated National School Choice Week! What is school choice? School choice allows every family to choose the K-12 educational options that best fit their children. Each child is unique, and their education should be too. Educational options include traditional public schools to public charter schools, public magnet schools, private schools, online academies, and homeschooling. We love seeing the scholars' smiling faces and watching them form special bonds with their friends.
6. Thursday, January 18th, 2024: Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse Elementary School showed how reading can be fun during Literacy Night! Families visited various classrooms to learn literacy strategies to work with their children at home. Rooms varied from sight words to context clues to theme. Ms. Edgar also hosted an information session with resources families could take home. Thank you to everyone who participated in Literacy Night!
7. Saturday, January 6th, 2023: Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse Elementary scholars performed dances for the Karen New Year Celebration. Students practiced these dances for hours and gave some beautiful performances. Scholars invited several staff members to this special holiday celebration of their culture.
8. Wednesday, December 20th, 2023: Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse 3rd through 5th graders gathered in the gymnasium for a Positivity Project celebration! Atoms and staff displaying the character strengths Kindness and OPM: Supporting Through Struggle, and Self Control were awarded. Congratulations to December’s P2 winners!

Atoms and parents attending this event had the pleasure of meeting with New York State Senator Griffo to advocate for fair funding and support for Charter schools. 3. Tuesday, January 23rd, 2024: In a thrilling showdown, the Utica Academy of Science Boys Varsity Basketball secured a fantastic victory against Bishop Grimes! With a final score of 66 to 54, the team showed incredible skills and determination on the court. Congratulations on the well-deserved win!
4. Sunday, January 21st, 2024: Grade 8 Utica Academy of Science scholars showcased their brilliance at the "First Robotic Tech Challenge Competition (FTC)" held at MVCC. Team 2474, aka “Utica Atomic Robots,” represented Utica Academy proudly as the rookie of 23 teams, marking our school's debut in this thrilling competition! The experience was invaluable as Atoms showcased their skills and had the chance to connect with teams from various school districts, fostering knowledge and camaraderie.
5. Thursday, January 18th, 2024: Utica Academy of Science Junior-Senior High School was honored to host Mr. Tim Fitzgerald, Vice President of Mohawk Valley EDGE, for a captivating motivational and leadership speech to our seniors. Mr. Fitzgerald, a distinguished alumnus of Utica University, shared his incredible academic journey and highlighted the importance of leadership, excellence, and passion. From his role in the National Political Science Honor Society to serving as President of the James Sherman Political Science Society, his successful track record is commendable. As a Summa Cum Laude graduate and a dynamic participant in academics and sports, Mr. Fitzgerald's story is one of dedication and achievement. Currently contributing his expertise as the Vice President of Mohawk Valley EDGE, he emphasized the value of collaboration and the impact of economic development on the Utica region.
6. January 17-18th, 2024: Several members of the Utica Academy of Science senior class visited the Elementary classrooms to read to the scholars. The seniors held a book drive for the elementary students, then spent two afternoons delivering the books to the classrooms and spending some quality time with our younger scholars while reading to them. What an amazing way to give back to the community. Thank you, seniors!
7. Wednesday, January 17th, 2024: The Utica Academy of Science Elementary December students of the month and class Dojo winners were given a special breakfast. Atoms who were named Students of the Month showed responsibility in their daily actions. Responsibility was the December character trait. Congrats to the December STOM winners!
8. Tuesday, January 16th, 2024: Utica Academy of Science Junior-Senior High School started a new way to lift each other up. “The Love Jug” is now in the staff lounge, ready for teachers & staff to drop positive notes spreading warmth and encouragement on these chilly winter days.
9. Friday, January 12th, 2024: Ms. DeSarro's second-grade class earned a popcorn party! They earned 15 smiley faces for 15 moments of exceptional behavior. Way to go, Atoms!
10. Friday, January 5th, 2023: The Atoms Soccer Club has finished its first session of the school year. The scholars participated in different activities that gave them opportunities to develop their technical abilities, cognitive decision-making skills, and social-emotional skills. They had weekly training sessions and games throughout the season. Here’s a special message from Coach Merriam:"The kids are improving, and that's wonderful, but the real gain from all this is the community that is being built around the kids. We have something beautiful, and it comes full circle. The school supports the program and coaches, the coaches train the scholars, the scholars get opportunities to grow through sport, and as they get into the high school they have a chance to mentor the younger kids. So, it really goes full circle in the sense of building community. Everyone helps out."
11. Thursday, December 21st, 2023: Kindergarten and 1st grade students boarded the Polar Express. Atoms each received a ticket and sat in rows as they imagined the magical train ride. Our very own conductor, Ms. Smith, read the story. It was a magical day in the K-1 hallway of Utica Academy of Science.
12. Thursday, December 21st, 2023: Mrs. Marrotta's fourth-grade class made gingerbread houses to show their creativity and holiday spirit. They used graham crackers and frosting to build the foundation and candies for the delectable decorations. Utica Academy of Science Atoms did an excellent job making unique designs!
13. Wednesday, December 20th, 2023: Utica Academy of Science Atoms took a pivotal step in planning for their future during SUNY POLY Instant Decision Day. Utica Academy seniors dressed to impress and met face-to-face with SUNY Polytechnic Institute representatives, presented their academic achievements and had the chance to make an impressive impact before getting an instant decision about their admission. The combined efforts of the presenter and our proactive senior students made Instant Decision Day a genuinely enriching experience, promoting a spirit of collaboration and empowering our students in their educational journey. Here's to the future, filled with advanced discoveries, ground-breaking technologies, and extraordinary leaders!
14. Wednesday, December 20th, 2023: Utica Academy of Science facilitated meetings between senior students and a representative from Mohawk Valley Community College. For the second semester, staff have strategically planned dual credit courses for our students in accordance with our agreement with MVCC. Atoms are actively engaged in planning their university courses with the guidance of the college department, making the most of the opportunities offered by our school.
15. Wednesday, December 20th, 2023: Utica Academy of Science Elementary School was one big happy family! Scholars and parents came in for a cozy movie night. Most scholars attended in PJs and brought blankets to enjoy the movie Ice Age. Thanks to the FSA for providing popcorn, snacks, and drinks to give a real movie theater experience!
16. Wednesday, December 20th, 2023: Utica Academy of Science Elementary School celebrated Cultural Day as part of Spirit Week. Students and staff were encouraged to wear something that celebrates their heritage and diversity. There were so many beautiful ensembles from around the world showcased on this special day.
17. Wednesday, December 20th, 2023: Ms. Tayler's kindergarten class had an unexpected visitor straight from the North Pole! Santa Claus was coming to town and he came right into class with a bag full of gifts! Santa’s visit was sponsored by the Meadows Senior Living Apartments based in New Hartford, as part of their community give back challenge. They also kindly donated snacks for the class holiday party and activities for the classroom such puzzles, coloring books, and stickers!
18. Tuesday, December 19th, 2023: Utica Academy of Science Elementary Atoms were ready to sleigh for the second day of Spirit Week. Students and staff sported their "ugliest" sweater to spread some festive cheer around the school.
19. Tuesday, December 19th, 2023: December was Spice It Up Month, a celebration of international recipes that are proven to raise the bar of the spice rack. Utica Academy of Science 4th grade scholars learned about the origin and health benefits of herbs and spices, including cinnamon, clove, allspice, and dill. Atoms smelled the herbs and spices after learning where they came from. Students then watched a cooking demo of warm baked apple slices that included spices in the recipe. Afterward, students were able to taste-test the apple slices. Students received recipe cards, activity sheets, and an apple for a snack!

Survey Results on Materials, Equipment, and Assistive Technology: School run a follow up survey on one question from the prior survey to get more feedback to correct the issue: Teachers are asked to provide more details in regards to lack of materials so the school can look into more and provide those items. Each of the second survey results with listed items were shared and discussed.

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2023: Local artist Jaleel Campbell visited Mrs. Merrithew's Senior Craft class. Jaleel was kind enough to offer help with the students' crocheted pieces they have been working on in class. Plus, he talked about the therapeutic benefits of crocheting. Jaleel also told Atoms about his crochet club in Syracuse called "Off the Hook." Guest speakers always add to our student’s educational experience. Thank you for your time, Jaleel!
Thursday, December 21st, 2023: Throughout the month of December, Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary Atoms learned about the character traits, Caring and Compassion. Caring is showing kindness and concern for others. Compassion is showing/having that concern for the misfortunes or sufferings of others.On December 21st, we celebrated the Atoms that best exemplified those traits. 2. Tuesday, January 2nd, 2023: ‘Tis the season of giving! Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse Atoms, staff, and families collected various non-perishable items to help support the Food Bank of Central New York. They donated 365 pounds of food! Thank you to all our Atoms and their families for such generosity!
3. Wednesday, December 20th, 2023: The talented 3rd-5th grade Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse Atoms have worked extremely hard in the Atomic Singers club over the past ten meetings! They've been practicing "We Are the World," "My Shot" from Hamilton, and "Don't Worry Be Happy." In addition to practicing these songs, scholars also focused on learning how to work on a team. The Atomic Singers put on a showcase where these young stars performed the songs they had been practicing. Join us in celebrating our scholars' talents and creativity!
4. Wednesday, December 20th, 2023: Ms. Farah's Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse ENL class visited the MOST. Atoms had a blast exploring the different areas of the museum and learning about energy, fossils, machines, human anatomy, and much more!
5. Tuesday, December 19th, 2023: Fourth-grade Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse scholars had the incredible opportunity to connect with the multi-talented Natasia White. Natasia, a passionate musician, actor, playwright, and educator in Syracuse, shared their musical journey with Ms. Camire's class. We learned a lot about Natasia's background, enjoyed some of their original tunes, and had insightful conversations about the power of music within our community. Natasia has not only written two fantastic plays, Credence (in-person) and High Tides (virtual), but also showcased their musical prowess by playing violin, viola, and ukulele in a few Syracuse bands.
6. Wednesday, December 13th, 2023: Ms. Pittsley returned to Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse Elementary School to continue the Nutrition Education sessions. This time, Ms. Pittsley made baked apples with 1st-grade Atoms. She showed them how adding spices to fresh foods changes how the food tastes once cooked. The baked apples looked and smelled delicious, and students had fun learning how to bake fresh apples as a healthy and yummy treat!

The UAS Girls Varsity Soccer team had their Senior Night on October 13th.UAS Elementary School celebrated Unity Day, the main event of National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month, by wearing orange. Monday, December 18th, 2023: Utica Academy of Science fifth graders visited the MOST Museum in Syracuse! Scholars enjoyed watching a film about the ice age and interacting with the educational exhibits throughout the museum. They learned about energy, fossils, machines, human anatomy, and more!
Monday, December 18th, 2023: Utica Academy of Science Elementary School celebrated Spirit Week before break. Monday, December 18th was Flannel Day. Atoms stayed warm and cozy on the chilly December day.
Friday, December 15th, 2023: Utica Academy of Science Junior-Senior High School organized a talent show. This was an opportunity for Atoms to show their skills in various visual and audio performances. Special thanks to Ms. Myler, Ms. Strong, Mr. Bullis, and all other staff and students involved in this fantastic event!
Friday, December 15th, 2023: Ms. DeSarro's class was rewarded with a pizza party for donating the most items during the Thanksgiving Food Drive on November 6th-17th. Ms. DeSarro's classes brought in 110 items! The Elementary School collected 538 items in total. All items were donated to the Neighborhood Center in Utica. Thank you to the FSA for holding this event. It's never too early to learn about Citizenship and giving back to your community!

2. Thursday, December 21st, 2023: Citizenship & Science Academy of Rochester Atoms were jingle bell rockin' to Holiday tunes! Each class performed a song for the community, including family and friends. After the concert, students and guests enjoyed a tasty treat while scholars received community service certificates for participating in the Winter Donation Drive.

Tuesday, December 19th, 2023: The Citizenship & Science Academy of Rochester family enjoyed a delicious spaghetti dinner with the school dean, Jasmine Mathis, while learning about the importance of reinforcing mathematics at home. Atoms were sent home with math flashcards to help them on their journey as STEM scholars.
