Hand, Foot and Mouth:

We have had one diagnosed case of this in the MS this week. This is almost exclusively seen in children 5 years of age, or younger. Because it is quite contagious, most older children and adults have been exposed at a young age.

Hand, Foot and Mouth is a harmless, but uncomfortable viral illness where providing comfort measures is the treatment. It is classically noted by canker sores or small blisters in the mouth, small red spots on the palms of the hands, and soles of the feet. A child may have only 1 site, or any combination of sites, of 'spots.' Please refer to the link listed, for basic advice regarding hand, foot, and mouth.

Your child may return to school when they are free of untreated fever for 24 hours.

Also, please consider sending a cold lunch/snack consisting of soft, low-acidic foods until mouth sores are healed.

Again, this is typically seen in younger children, but I felt it was worth posting on the MS site, since they may have younger siblings.

If you have any questions or concerns, please ask me. I am happy to help in any way I can!
