Hand, Foot and Mouth:

We have had several cases of this in the last 1-2 weeks, with most being in lower elementary school age children.

This is a harmless viral illness where providing comfort measures is the treatment. It is classically noted by canker sores or small blisters in the mouth, small red spots on the palms of the hands, and soles of the feet. A child may have only 1 site, or any combination of sites, of 'spots.' Please refer to the link listed, for basic advice regarding hand, foot, and mouth. http://kidshealth.org/en/parents/hfm.html?ref=search

Your child may return to school when they are free of untreated fever for 24 hours.

Also, please consider sending a cold lunch/snack consisting of soft, low-acidic foods until mouth sores are healed.

If you have any questions or concerns, please ask me. I am happy to help in any way I can!
