Current office visits include:

    • Coughs, coughs, and more coughs- with the change in the weather/temps, reactive airways are more common. Kids that have been diagnosed with Reactive Airway Disease, or "Asthma" tend to have more symptoms during this time. Croup is also a common illness during temp/humidity changes. If you have a child that uses an inhaler, or nebulizer for wheezing, let me know! I am happy to administer those at school.
    • Stomach aches- some with vomiting, some just generalized pain. Constipation is a common cause of tummy pain in elementary students. Increasing high fiber foods while temporarily decreasing starches and dairy, should help get those tummies back on the right track.
  • Chapped lips/Dry skin- Self explanatory:) Students are welcome to keep a Chapstick or other lip quencher in their backpacks or classroom. I use Vaseline, applied with a cotton swab if they visit for chapped lips. If dry skin, I use Vaseline Advanced Repair fragrance free lotion. Running a humidifier during dry months will help reduce skin dryness.
  • Headaches- If short-lived, or onset is during/after recess or PE, a glass of water, and/or an ice pack usually does the trick. Students are advised to return to the Nurse "when the ice pack gets warm" if their headache continues, or sooner if worsens.

Note: All temperatures are checked for signs of illness or headache

Please be sure your child is free of fever for 24 hours (unmedicated) before returning to school. They are considered contagious to others, until that time has passed.
