We have had a few cases of either Influenza or other viral respiratory illness, and a case of pinkeye this week. Be on the look-out for worsening symptoms over time. If you child has been ill for several days with a "cold" and they develop a new fever, cough worsens (either painful, becomes croupy, or has coughing fits), there is vomiting with or without cough, shortness of breath, or increased fatigue, those may be symptoms of developing pneumonia. A same-day Dr's visit would be advised.

Strep throat is prevalent in elementary and middle school students. Teachers are diligently "wiping-down" their rooms!

Just a rule of thumb: a sore throat that is not improving, or worsening after 3 days, should be seen by a health provider to rule-out strep throat. Sometimes in younger children with strep sore throats, they complain more that their "tummy hurts." Strep throat requires antibiotics for recovery, so I encourage you to call your Dr for an appointment. If your child has a fever, or is diagnosed with strep throat, they must be on antibiotics (and fever-free) for 24 hrs prior to returning to school.

Thank you, and be healthy!

Mono: We have 1 case of mono in the MS

Strep throat: 6 cases in the last week grades 5-8.

Generally Spring is a popular time for strep throat cases.

Dr appt REQUIRED. Strep throat will NOT heal on it's own, so it is very important to see a Dr for testing and medication, if the swab is positive.

Remember to change toothbrush/toothpaste if diagnosed, and WASH THE WATER BOTTLES! :)

Don't share food, drinks or chapstick/gloss to decrease your exposure risk.

The teaching/office staff and custodians are taking extra care to Clorox-wipe down the frequently touched surfaces. I routinely wipe down the main and nursing offices during the week. Hopefully we can nip this in the bud!
