Today's Goal: Students will be able to add and subtract decimals.
1. Line up your decimals always when adding or subtracting. This is hugely important.
2. Sometimes there are empty spaces when you line up the decimals. Put zeros where these numbers are missing. This is called annexing zeros.
3. Now add or subtract normally. If you are subtracting be sure to regroup (borrow) if necessary.
4. Finally, bring your decimal straight down. This is why lining up the decimal when you write down the problem is so important. This is also hugely important.
Example
Soccer Decimals - Score goals and solve subtraction problems.
Lunch Lady - Add the items in the school lunch room.
Missing Number Conundrum - Can you find the missing numbers to complete the pyramid?
