Lord by Del Byers

HELLO PEOPLE

A very common statement that we hear is that "Jesus is Lord". So I am

taking the word LORD and turning it into a topic of interest. This is

the beginning of my study. I will be adding to as I go.

The word "LORD" is in the NEW TESTAMENT 570 times.

Down below you will find references to THE ANGEL OF THE LORD. The

ANGEL OF THE LORD, of course, refers to the ANGEL OF GOD.

Here is the meaning of LORD out of the Strong's concordance.

κύριος

kurios

koo'-ree-os

From κῦρος kuros (supremacy); supreme in authority, that is, (as

noun) controller; by implication Mr. (as a respectful title): - God,

Lord, master, Sir.D

Below you will find the article from Wikipedia. And, yes, we must

believe that GOD raised Jesus from the dead. But you will also see

that they are supporting the NEW TESTAMENT CHRISTIAN BIBLE reference.

KING JAMES

(Rom 10:9) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,

and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the

dead, thou shalt be saved.

KING JAMES

(2Co 4:3) But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

(2Co 4:4) In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of

them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of

Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

(2Co 4:5) For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and

ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.

NEW TESTAMENT CHRISTIAN BIBLE

Romans 10:9-13 of the New Testament Christian Bible says, "That if you

confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart

that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

INTERPRETATION AS A CREED

Various Christian sects have argued over how to tell whether one is a

Christian or not. They wrote creeds that acted as a sine qua non for

membership within the fellowship. The statement "Jesus is Lord" has

been described as the most basic Christian creed in existence.

Romans 10:9-13 of the New Testament Christian Bible says, "That if you

confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart

that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved." From

Matthew Henry's commentary on Romans Chapter 10 "The self-condemned

sinner need not perplex himself how this righteousness may be found.

When we speak of looking upon Christ, and receiving, and feeding upon

him, it is not Christ in heaven, nor Christ in the deep, that we mean;

but Christ in the promise, Christ offered in the word. Justification

by faith in Christ is a plain doctrine. It is brought before the mind

and heart of every one, thus leaving him without excuse for unbelief.

If a man confessed faith in Jesus, as the Lord and Saviour of lost

sinners, and really believed in his heart that God had raised him from

the dead, thus showing that he had accepted the atonement, he should

be saved by the righteousness of Christ, imputed to him through faith.

But no faith is justifying which is not powerful in sanctifying the

heart, and regulating all its affections by the love of Christ. We

must devote and give up to God our souls and our bodies: our souls in

believing with the heart, and our bodies in confessing with the mouth.

The believer shall never have cause to repent his confident trust in

the Lord Jesus. Of such faith no sinner shall be ashamed before God;

and he ought to glory in it before men."[1]

The saying "Jesus is Lord" serves as a statement of faith for millions

of Christians who regard Jesus as both fully man and fully God. It is

also the motto adopted by the World Council of Churches and by Kenneth

Copeland Ministries.

The term 'lord' applied frequently in Eastern Mediterranean regions to

local gods. In a number or Semitic languages the word for lord was

ba'al, and prophets in the Hebrew Bible frequently rebuked those who

worshipped 'Baal' or 'Baals'.

The statement "Jesus is Lord" has been interpreted to assert that

Christians should be involved in political process of their times.

During the first century the phrase Jesus is Lord was intended by

early Christians as a political contrast to the popular greeting

amongst Roman citizens—Caesar is Lord. This statement meant that Jesus

himself and the early Christians were seen as a political threat. In

the Roman world Caesar had come to view himself as Lord and was not

open to being challenged. The statement that "Jesus is Lord" in its

context was a statement that was viewed as political subversion, a

direct challenge to the prevailing establishment and therefore meant

that politics and religion were inextricably linked.

[edit] As a Worldview

The apostle Paul wrote, "We do not preach about ourselves, but we

preach that Jesus Christ is Lord and that we are your servants for

Jesus."[2 Cor. 4:5] It is a mindset imperative not only in

understanding the Christian story, but the very nature of truth

itself. Jesus is Lord goes beyond a mantra or political statement and

represents a worldview. Christians believe that there exists ultimate

truth, meaning and reality whether people choose to stand beside it or

not. It embodies an anchor in a world setting its mind on a

postmodernist worldview.

This statement also represents a strong inclination to the present as

indicated by the present tense. It also equates Jesus with eternal

sovereignty. As humans cannot exist in the realm of eternity,

Christians must deal and act in the present. C.S. Lewis stated,

"Where, except in the present, can the eternal be met?" Christians

believe the eternal can be met in the person of Jesus and it is here

that the need for truth and coherence is met.

WHO IS THIS ANGEL OF THE LORD?

(Mat 1:20) But while he thought on these things, behold, THE ANGEL OF

THE LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of

David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is

conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

(Mat 1:24) Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as THE ANGEL OF

THE LORD had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:

(Mat 2:13) And when they were departed, behold, THE ANGEL OF THE LORD

appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young

child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I

bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

(Mat 2:19) But when Herod was dead, behold, an ANGEL OF THE LORD

appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

(Mat 28:2) And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for THE ANGEL

OF THE LORD descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone

from the door, and sat upon it.

(Luk 1:11) And there appeared unto him AN ANGEL OF THE LORD standing

on the right side of the altar of incense.

(Luk 1:38) And Mary said, Behold THE HANDMAID OF THE LORD; be it unto

me according to thy word. And the ANGEL departed from her.

(Luk 2:9) And, lo, THE ANGEL OF THE LORD came upon them, and the

glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

(Act 5:19) But THE ANGEL OF THE LORD by night opened the prison

doors, and brought them forth, and said,

(Act 7:30) And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him

in the wilderness of mount Sina AN ANGEL OF THE LORD in a flame of

fire in a bush.

(Act 8:26) And THE ANGEL OF THE LORD spake unto Philip, saying,

Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from

Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.

(Act 12:7) And, behold, THE ANGEL OF THE LORD came upon him, and a

light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised

him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his

hands.

(Act 12:11) And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know

of a surety, that THE LORD HATH SENT HIS ANGEL, and hath delivered me

out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people

of the Jews.

(Act 12:23) And immediately THE ANGEL OF THE LORD smote him, because

he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the

ghost.

(Rev 11:15) And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great

voices in heaven, saying, THE KINGDOMS OF THIS WORLD ARE BECOME THE

KINGDOMS OF OUR LORD, AND OF HIS CHRIST, AND HE SHALL REIGN FOR EVER

AND EVER.

(Rev 16:5) And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art

righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou

hast judged thus.

(Rev 22:6) And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true:

and THE LORD GOD OF THE HOLY PROPHETS SENT HIS ANGEL TO SHEW UNTO HIS

SERVANTS THE THINGS WHICH MUST SHORTLY BE DONE.
