Under: THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

The Lord's exhortation is: "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." (Mat. 5:16.) Harbor no fear for what you will suffer, for assistance will be given. Hear His words! "And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and FEAR NOT me, saith the Lord of hosts." (Mal. 3:5.) Before the brightness of light, the decayed walls of violence shall crumble. Therefore, may every individual of the faith of Jesus Christ elevate the light he possesses, like a city on a mountain, that the world may tremble, and that the sincere and the honest may be saved from the coming destruction! May no one of us fail to perform his duty!

Under: The Scriptural Doctrine of the Birth of Jesus Christ

The narration of Luke the evangelist concerning the birth of Jesus Christ is as follows:

"And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, FEAR NOT, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: and he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Then said Mary untoi the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God."—Luke 1:26-35.

The Act of Transfiguration

He became frightened and lay as though (lead when the angel at his call of anguish came to him and said in answer to his many questions, "I knew that the Highest would show this unto thee. Therefore I commanded thee to go into the field, where no foundation of any building was. For in the place where the Highest beginneth to show his city, there can no man's building be able to stand." (2 Esdras 10:52-54.) He was shown what "the most High will do unto them that dwell upon the earth in the last days."—V. 59.

If we add to this the testimony given below, we shall get a wonderful and clear view of this great act of transfiguration, which only the Almighty and his Son can bring about, the realization of which will reveal the fulfillment of the promises on a contrite people who by faith have entered, and constitute, the city of promises. Jehovah says to the remnant of Israel,. 12,000 of every tribe, or 144,000 in all:

"O Israel, FEAR NOT: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Savior: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee. Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honorable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life. FEAR NOT: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west; I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth; even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him."--Isa. 43:1-7.

If we compare this with the 109th Psalm, we shall find that the accursed deeds committed by the betrayers and persecutors of Israel make up the clothes of these wicked beings in contrast to the wedding clothes the suffering saints have become clothed with under the blessings of God. And the following words reveal that the movement of faith will elevate the suffering Zion company to the position of the queen of the world : "Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to thee. As I live, saith the Lord, thou shalt surely clothe thee with them all, as with an ornament, and bind them on thee, as a bride doeth. For thy waste and thy desolate places, and the land of thy destruction, shall even now be too narrow by reason of the inhabitants, and they that swallowed thee up shall be far away." (Isa. 49:18, 19.) This city is the mother of the children of God. It consists of the promises clothed in flesh, transformed and glorified through the power of God. It is the house of the Father.

The New Man

The promises, united with nature, were given birth to by the power of God, and the result was a human being, called "Jesus of Nazareth." The controlling power of the Word and Spirit on his mind kept him free from sin. As a stranger in this present kingdom he journeyed toward the kingdom of God, and by his practical life he revealed to others the way leading there. Finally he came to the gate of the new kingdom. There the representatives of the present sinful world pierced him with their spears. He died, and had there not been an Almighty God behind this gate to fulfill the promises, the whole movement of the promises would have stranded there. But the promises were to be fulfilled. The seal of death was broken, the grave was opened, the power of corruptibility was suppressed by the Spirit of life, and the promise, "Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee," took shape in a being born by the Spirit, who never more should return to corruptibility. Everlasting life had been personified in three acts of birth.

This incorruptible being afterwards appeared among those he had previously known, who had associated with him; but when they saw him and realized the power he possessed to make himself visible or invisible, they became terrified. They thought they saw a spirit —a phantom—an illusionary vision. He resembled the wind—they heard his voice, but they knew not whence he came nor whither he went. He spoke to them and said, "Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have." Here there stood before them a personal being, the like of which they had never before seen; and in their surprise they were unable to believe their own eyes. In order to convince them of the truth he said, "Have ye here any meat? And they gave him a piece of a, broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. And he took it, and did eat before them."—Luke 24:36-46.

Only then could they grasp the reality of the promises which had previously been impressed on their minds and understand the demonstrations of God's creative power, which had placed the kingdom of God before their eyes of faith. For instance, the vision on the mount of transfiguration, where the kingdom of immortality was reflected. Because of all this they were now able to grasp the glory which the regeneration of the world is to bring forth, when the promises as a whole shall be fulfilled.

For the attainment of this goal the Word is born three special times—first, as the Logos, second, as it becomes flesh, and third, when this flesh is transformed into an immortal being. Christ was first born as the everlasting Logos. Then he was born as the image of God in flesh—the Son of man. Later he was born of the Spirit in the new creation as the Son of God. In Christ, the beginner and finisher of faith, the birth of the Word was visualized in these aforementioned acts until it was complete, and then the teacher they had known in the flesh stood before the disciples as the King ruling over the laws of nature. Again he revealed himself to one of them, John, and then he resembled "the sun shining in its strength." John became terrified before him, but the same kind lips spoke and said, "FEAR NOT; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth and was dead."—Rev. 1:13-20.

When the promises, which were born in the hearts of the disciples, awakened them to life and consciousness with respect to the power, and the purpose connected therewith, the incorruptible kingdom rose before their eyes, and they saw with much rejoicing that they were on the way into it. Peter describes what he saw in the following manner: "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth hot away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time." (1 Pet. 1:3-5.) This enthusiastic language evokes an image of "a new heaven and a new earth" before the mind, and places the anchor of hope on the resurrection connected with the second revelation of Jesus Christ.

OUT OF THE DUAL PLAN:

Under: The Declaration of War

Christ, in exemplifying the way to the kingdom of God and in pointing out how faith alone in God can bring his followers to the heavenly possession, prophetically speaks these cheering words intended to comfort those who now separate themselves from this world for the kingdom to come, "FEAR NOT little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." Luke 12: 32. The powers of the world shall not have it, but you, a little defenseless flock, shall receive it. Paul tells us that at the time the Lord reveals his power on the wicked in the battle of Michael, he will be glorified in the saints and be admired in all the believers. (2 Thess. 1: 10.)
