Dive into the course with field trips to the Long Island beaches and waters to observe and collect samples for future study in the classroom. Class work will include the setup and maintenance of a saltwater tank, conducting water quality testing and overall upkeep of the system. Oceanographic equipment, plate tectonics, waves, tides, currents, the nature of the ocean floor and the coastal zones, the realm of marine life from the depths of the sea to the salt marshes are among the topics examined. Students will conduct dissections of various marine samples to understand adaptations and how organisms have evolved to succeed within their niche. Course work will include research projects and classroom presentation.

Prerequisite: ​ Successful completion of two years of lab science. Priority will be given to seniors.
