This course is an introduction to healthcare careers. The course is designed as an overview of healthcare occupations and the skills required for success in the health service industry. It examines the medical needs of a culturally diverse society and the legal responsibilities of healthcare providers. The course includes academics in healthcare, ethics, teamwork, employability skills, health maintenance and safety practices, technology applications, and a basic overview of biology and math in medicine. It also touches upon the impact of technology on the quality of healthcare services. It is a blended course that employs online instruction to support learning, and students submit work in an online portfolio. All students are required to participate in the CT Student Innovation Expo, which takes place on a Saturday in May. It is the culminating event of the yearlong effort highlighting teamwork, problem solving, presentation, and 21st century skills. Speakers from the healthcare industry are invited to speak according to the interests of the class. This course is not open to seniors who opt for early graduation.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of one year of lab science. Priority will be given to seniors.
