Newtown Greenery/Plant Science in Action is an applied science class where students are encouraged to demonstrate their understanding of plant culture principles by growing, nurturing, marketing and selling plants they have grown in the NHS student-run enterprise, The Greenery. Therefore, a student who takes a semester of Greenery will receive a 1/2 credit towards the 3 Science credits required for graduation and a 1/2 credit towards an elective in Fine & Applied Arts. Greenhouse and outdoor activities will reinforce classroom instruction. Students are responsible for designing, installing and maintaining campus landscapes and interior-scapes and providingscientifically-based plant care services throughout the school. Interacting with the community at large by providing expert plant care advice during sales events is also required. Sound business decisions, new product development, and business-related computer skills are integral parts of this program.

Note: At times, students are required to manage sales during free periods and outside of

the regular school day.
