Here is a list of individual and team STEM competitions that take place during the school year.
Science Fairs and Research Symposia
Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (preliminary applications due November 13, 2015):
Northern Jersey JSHS at Rutgers New Brunswick (first round)
ISEF (qualifying tournament is NJRSF or Mercer County Science Fair)
Science Competitions--Individuals:
Registration needs to be done by November, exam administered in early January
Schools have to first sign up, and then students sign up individually online using the school’s site code. Registration needs to be done before winter break, local exam administered in February.
USA Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO)
Registration needs to be done by February, exam administered mid-March.
Dr. Fishman usually is good with signing up on time, but need to remind him to give signup forms earlier.
USA Computing Olympiad (USACO)
Entire competition is online, students can program using their favorite language of choice. This is probably the most widely accessible one if you know CS.
University of Toronto National Biology Competition
Canada’s national exam, signups due by March, exam in April. This competition is actually very advantageous for “international” students. They pick top 10s for Canada and rest of the world. Canada is 10/2500, ROTW is 10/750.
Registration needs to be done by April, teams of five are needed for all the subjects in order to be eligible for a school ranking.
