Assigning Barcodes to Items in Mandarin M5

PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION BEFORE YOU WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW

Librarians can choose ANY barcode to assign to items, even randomly; they don’t need to follow a specific order. A barcode is used just to identify a specific item.

For the librarian's convenience, Mandarin M5 can AUTOMATICALLY assign and suggest barcode numbers. M5 will remember the last barcode used and saved in a holding record. Next time you create a holding record, you will see in the barcode field the previous barcode + 1 (in a continuous sequence) on the template. If you want this feature, please email our technical support team to have this feature enabled for your library catalog.

***Keep in mind, this is a suggested barcode. Librarians are allowed to change it in case they want to follow another sequence or go back to a sequence that, for any reason, was lost***

How to view "Recently Used Barcodes"

There is an option allowing you to see the latest barcodes you have worked with. The "recently used barcodes" function can be found under “Cataloging tools”. This feature can be used to see what barcodes have been recently used or created.
