How to Study Titus (NASB)
Read through Titus without stopping so that you understand the general content and thrust of the letter. Mark every reference to Paul in one color and Titus in another, including synonyms and pronouns. Record what you learn about each under the designated headings on the Observations Chart.
Read Titus again, one chapter at a time. As you read each chapter:
Note the groups of people mentioned in each chapter. List what you learn about each on the Observations Chart.
Mark in the text the key words. (Be sure also to mark the synonyms): God, Jesus Christ, doctrine, world (the truth), grace, deeds, sound, speak (speech), sensible.
The commands, warnings, and instructions Paul includes in his letter to Titus help define Paul's purpose for writing. Read Titus again chapter by chapter and note each command, warning, or instruction Paul gives Titus. Either mark these with a distinguishing symbol or list them on the Observations Chart under "Instructions to Titus."
Listing Paul's commands, warnings, and instructions to Titus probably has helped you see the dominant subject of Titus. Look for the verses in chapters 2 and 3 regarding what Titus is to teach. They summarize the thrust of Paul's letter. These verses will help you determine the theme of the epistle. Record it on Structure of Titus.
Now summarize the theme or main message of each paragraph and then of each chapter and record these on Structure of Titus. Also, record the chapter theme in your Bible.
Fill in author, date and purpose on the same chart.
