Introduction

INTRODUCTION TO REGISTRATION

The middle years between elementary and high school are an exciting time full of growth and exploration. The teachers and staff at Forest Lake Area Middle School are excited to offer our students core instruction with a full year in math, English, social studies, science and physical education / health. These courses will provide a rigorous base for your experience. We also offer a broad, extensive and exciting variety of elective classes in agriculture, art, business education, family and consumer sciences, industrial technology, music and world languages.

Every middle school student will experience gateway electives in all six of our career wheel pathways These classes allow students to explore their interests and skills as they work toward high school. We believe that a strong core experience coupled with exploration in elective classes is a critical part of a student’s education and development.

Students with a demonstrated need of additional support may be assigned to intervention courses in math or reading. Accelerated courses are offered in English, math and science. Initial placement in accelerated courses is based on standardized test scores and other curriculum-based assessments.

Under the course headings in the menu at the left you will find descriptions for each of the classes. If you have additional questions about course offerings please feel free to reach out to our committed group of counselors. We are looking forward to working with all of our students and their families over the course of your students’ middle school experience.
