Throughout this course students will improve their digital literacy skills through a series of experiences that emphasize discussion, collaboration, and research. Students will learn to navigate an increasingly digital information landscape including critically evaluating information, examining their own digital practices, exploring new media, and ultimately creating a series of student products that center on 21st century skills.

English 7, a full-year course, engages students in reading, writing and speaking effectively in the English language. The course involves students in reading fiction, nonfiction and poetry for comprehension and appreciation. It includes many varied writing activities: informal narrative, formal expository, technical and creative writing. Students will be presented with a variety of reading strategies designed to increase comprehension.

Course # 4974 - Advanced English 7B (7)

This course engages students in an enriched and accelerated experience in reading, writing, and speaking effectively in the English language. The course involves students in reading fiction, nonfiction, drama, and poetry for comprehension and appreciation. It includes many varied writing activities: narrative, expository, technical, and creative writing. Students will be presented with a variety of reading strategies designed to increase comprehension.

Students in Advanced English should be interested in examining a wide variety of material in a more in-depth fashion, using higher-level thinking skills. The student should be self-motivated and willing to discuss openly in class. Some material is similar to that in a regular English class, but it will be covered at a different pace, and possibly using a different style.

A number of factors are used in determining the course placement of our students in Advanced English. These include – FAST, NWEA (MAP), and MCA assessment data, academic performance, previous enrollment in courses, performance on a writing sample, and teacher assessment. Those placed in our advanced options are expected to maintain adequate academic performance to remain enrolled.

Course # 4982 - English 8B (8)

English 8, a full-year course, offers a wide and varied language arts experience. The course also emphasizes students communicating effectively in small groups of familiar people. In addition, many varied types of writing activities are examined. Students will be presented with a variety of reading strategies designed to increase comprehension.

Course # 4984 - Advanced English 8B (8)

Students in Advanced English should be interested in examining a wide variety of material in a more in-depth fashion, using higher-level thinking skills. The student should be self-motivated and willing to discuss openly in class. Some material is similar to that in a regular English class, but it will be covered at a different pace and, possibly, using a different style. Students will be presented with a variety of reading strategies designed to increase comprehension. (Admission to this class is by recommendation from previous English teacher and other established criteria.)
