In this course, a variety of musical literature will be studied and students will have multiple performance experiences throughout the year. The fundamentals of instrumental musicianship will be reviewed and emphasized throughout the course. Students will develop their note reading and rhythmic skills while focusing on tone production and instrument technique. In addition to the large group rehearsal every other day, students will also receive several small-group lessons.

In addition to the large group rehearsal every other day, students will also receive several small-group lessons.
Choir is an upbeat course where students work together as a team to develop their singing skills. Choir members will work on vocal technique, rehearsal skills, and be given a well-rounded background in music fundamentals. Each student will develop independent singing and reading skills to attain a high level of musicianship and confidence in a co-ed environment. There will be formal evening performances during the school year.
Concerts…field trips…community and school events…this is 7th grade band! Band 7 is a performance ensemble that has concerts as well as other enrichment opportunities outside of the school day. 7th grade band students develop 21st Century skills such as creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration while continuing to develop the mechanics of good instrumental technique through daily, full-band rehearsals and small-group lessons.
Prerequisite: Passing 6th grade band. Band includes the following instruments: flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, French horn, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba and percussion.
Whether you like to sing in the shower, rock out to the radio, or have been in a choir before, Choir 7 is the course for you! Choir 7 is a performance ensemble that has four concerts a year outside of the school day. Choir students develop 21st Century skills such as creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration while exploring a variety of two-part choral music. Students in this course will focus on developing healthy and effective vocal techniques as well as demonstrating appropriate concert and performance etiquette through large- and small-group instruction. In addition, music literacy skills such as sight-singing, rhythm reading, and identifying and applying musical terms and symbols will be a part of the curriculum.
7th grade orchestra is for you if you enjoy playing your string instrument! We rehearse daily in a large ensemble and include small ensemble and small group lessons throughout the year. You will experience playing a variety of musical styles such as fiddle, classical, pop and jazz. Enrichment experiences include guest artists and opportunities to see a performance ensemble. Students in Orchestra 7 will develop 21st Century skills such as creativity, accountability, collaboration and cross-cultural understanding. Regularly scheduled concerts outside the school day are a part of this class. Orchestra is a performance-based course that relies on participation for the entire year.
Prerequisite: Passing 6th grade orchestra.
Whether you are new to choral music or participated in 7th grade choir, Choir 8 is an excellent elective option for you! Choir 8 is a performance ensemble that has 4 performances outside of the school day per year, along with some performances during the school day. Students in Choir 8 continue to develop 21st Century skills such as creativity, accountability, collaboration, and cross-cultural understanding while exploring a wide variety of two- and three-part choral music. Students in this course will continue to focus on developing healthy and effective vocal techniques as well as gaining a greater understanding of choral balance and blend through large- and small-group lessons. In addition, music literacy skills such as sight-singing, rhythm reading, and identifying and applying musical terms and symbols will be a part of the curriculum.
Continue to enjoy playing and gain confidence in 8th grade orchestra ! Gain experience with higher level technical skills such as vibrato, upper positions and bow articulations. We rehearse daily in a large ensemble and include small ensemble and small group lessons throughout the year. You will experience playing a variety of musical styles such as fiddle, classical, pop and jazz. Enrichment experiences include guest artists and opportunities to see a performance ensemble. Students in Orchestra 8 will continue to develop 21st Century skills such as creativity, accountability, collaboration and cross-cultural understanding. Regularly scheduled concerts outside the school day are a part of this class. Orchestra is a performance-based course that relies on participation for the entire year.

Continue growing your talent, gaining confidence and enjoying music making in 8th grade band! Band 8 is a performance ensemble that has concerts as well as other enrichment opportunities outside of the school day. Band 8 students develop 21st Century skills such as creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration while continuing to develop the mechanics of good instrumental technique through daily, full-band rehearsals and small-group lessons. Concerts, Pep Band, Jazz Band, field trips, and community and school events are all a part of this junior high music experience.
Prerequisite: Passing Band 7A and 7B.
