Waldorf Salad
2 cups diced unpared apple
1 cup diced celery
1/3 cup coarsely chopped nuts
1/2 cup mayonnaise or salad dressing
Combine apple, celery, nuts and mayonnaise; toss.
Our family version deviates from this standard recipe. We add raisins, probably 1/2 to 1 cup. Also, enough juice from a jar of maraschino cherries is added to the mayonnaise to turn it a nice pink. While it can be served right away, this salad improves with a prechilling - about 1/2 to 1 hour before serving.
