There are a number of cool apps you can use to to collect live data from your students during class. This might be a simple check for understanding, a pre-test, a reading check, or maybe a teaching tool. We will look at both Socrative and Classkick. Please get both from the App Store before this session.
Clicker Replacements:
Socrative - There is are separate teacher and student apps. If you will be making quizzes ahead of time I'd recommend working on a Computer through their web interface rather than on your iPad.
Kahoot - This is a fun class quiz/competition type service. You get to it through a website rather than an app, even on your iPad. This is done as a big group, with questions appearing on a screen at the front of the class.
Plickers - Students flash a card at you and do not use their iPads. Looks awesome, but I haven't tried it yet.
Classkick lets you put together multimedia assessments/lessons.
You can watch student progress in real time.
