The Basics at DCHS: 2/10, 4/14
In this session I will share with you some of the things you need to know about iPad use at Divine Child.
iPad Management - Casper Focus and Self Service
Displaying your iPad screen to the class
AirDrop - Best thing ever? A distraction? Or a bit of both?
AirPrint - Yes, you can print from your iPad
Working with Google Drive: 2/16
With our Divine Child email addresses we have access to all of Google’s services, including Google Drive. Many of our freshmen teachers have been using Google Drive to collect student work. In this session we will look at best practices for using Google Drive with your classes. We will also look at the different Google Services you can access with your DC email.
Flipping with an iPad 3/5, 4/27
Have you thought about making videos to support your instruction? Maybe even a full flip? Many people believe that iPads are only for consumption of media and not for production. These people are wrong. With only an iPad you can create and distribute compelling content to your students.
A couple cool apps 3/10, 3/31
All of our students have Explain Everything and Notability on their iPads. After a quick overview of their features, we will look at how both apps can and are being used at DC to support learning or as a means of assessment.
Build your own Textbook/Curriculum 3/16, 5/5
Can’t find a textbook to match the way you want to teach your class? Why not create your own? We will look at how iTunes U and iBooks Author can be used to create and distribute material to either supplement what you already use or as a textbook replacement.
Formative Assessment 3/24, 4/20
There are a number of cool apps you can use to to collect live data from your students during class. This might be a simple check for understanding, a pre-test, a reading check, or maybe a teaching tool. We some cool apps and web pages for assessing students, including Socrative and Classkick. Please get both from the App Store before this session.
This session is not an iPad session. In this session we will discuss a different way of holding your students accountable for their education. With standards based grading the focus is less on what your students have done and more on what they can demonstrate they know.
Build your own PLC 5/26
Social networking does not have to be about selfies and pictures of food. It can actually be a great place to learn and interact with amazing educators from around the world. Twitter is often referred to as the best PD and educator can do.
Make the physical world interactive 6/2
This can be great for teaching or even to use with your peers. How cool would it be when you have to sub if there was a QR code to scan that would pull up instructions for how to show a movie in the classroom you’re subbing in? Record the bit of your lesson when you introduce a big assignment and put the QR code that links to the video on your handout for the assignment.
Hands-on with Explain Everything 4/16
Explain Everything is a great app both for making videos for your students, but also having students create videos for you. In this session we will spend some time working with this powerful app so you’ll be ready to use it with your students. If you don’t already have Explain Everything be sure to ask Steve for a copy before this session.
Hands-on with Notability 4/23, 5/7
I’ve tried many different note taking apps and Notability is the best. I’ve used it for creating quizzes for my students, annotating documents, filling out forms to email in, and taking notes. We will work through different ways this app can be used and how to set up your backups so you never lose your work. If you don’t already have Notability be sure to ask Steve for a copy before this session.
Hands-on with Keynote 2/23, 3/26
Keynote is Apple’s take on Powerpoint. Creating presentations is one of the least interesting things I use Keynote for. You can use it to create simple animations, custom clipart, infographics, or add captions to photos to tell a story. If you don’t already have Keynote be sure to ask Steve for a copy before this session.
Hands-on with Digital Storytelling: Adobe Voice 2/12, 4/30
There are many great ways students can use digital media to help create narratives. These narratives can be created at some point in virtually any content area. We will use a simple app, Adobe Voice, to share a story. If you don’t already have Adobe Voice, download it for free from the App Store.
Hands-on with Accessibility 3/12
Intuitive by design, iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch also come with assistive features that allow people with disabilities to experience the fun and function of iOS. Many of these features can help students who have not been diagnosed as needing them. In this session we will explore some of these functions.
Hands-on with iMovie 5/14
iMovie is Apple’s Premier movie making app. In this session we will play with this app to see what it can and can’t do. If you don’t have a copy of iMovie already please see Steve before this session so that you can download it prior to this session.
Hands-on with EDpuzzle 5/21
Making videos for your students? Not sure if they’re actually thinking while watching them? EDPuzzle allows you to ask questions and collect student answers during the video. It also allows you to see how many times students have watched different sections of your videos so you can see if there are parts they have more trouble with.
