Art = happy place

I am passionate about encouraging creativity in children. In the classroom I stress imagination and individuality while teaching art fundamentals, a wide variety of techniques and different mediums. I believe art history is vital and incorporate lessons that examine the work of an artist or time period in a hands-on manner. I also enjoy working with other teachers to show how art is naturally integrated with various subjects such as symmetry and Math or illustration and English.

Art is important to our community and shouldn’t be confined  to the classroom. I invite “visiting” artists to demonstrate and talk about their work. I also volunteer in De Soto teaching art to people of all ages. I have taught classes at the local library on meditative doodling. I have organized and taught painting party fundraisers. I volunteer at the Driftless Art Festival at the KinderArt tent, painting faces and helping with the youth art displays.

“ Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up."
