5.NF.1 Adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.
Ella completed 3/8 of a puzzle during recess on Tuesday. Joy completed 2/6 of the same puzzle during recess on Wednesday.
How much of the puzzle did the two girls complete?
Use what you know about fractions to explain how you found your answer. Use numbers and/or words in your explanation.
Differentiating: SRBI & Ell's
The differentiation will be implemented through my grouping and will have puzzle pieces to manipulate the problem. In addition, the visual of the puzzle piece will be projected with directions.
G&T: To challenge them with this problem if they complete on time. I would use mixed numbers or improper fractions to see if they can draw models and explain their thinking of how they got to the answer.
