Directions/Student Activities:

Students will add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators by learning to identify and generate equivalent fractions for 1/2 and 1/4. Students will also make estimates before adding and subtracting, rename improper fractions as mixed numbers and vice versa, and rename fractions in simplest form.

Differentiation: SRBI & ELL's

These students will make equivalent fractions using my fraction circles that are marked with the fraction number they represent. Once they master that and record it on their sheets. I will group them accordingly and then have them try to manipulate the fraction circles to represent their models for adding.

G&T: These students will try to use numbers that are not represented by the fractions circles to see if they can model it and continue to show their thinking of finding a common denominator and adding or subtracting.
