Dear Yosemite Families,
Just sending an update from the last two days in camp. Our first two days were a bit overcast and drizzly in the morning and the evening, but the day brought with it warm, delicious sun for everyone to enjoy. The temperature in Curry Village is about 52 in the day, but the other side is in the mid 60's. We had one group that almost made it to the top of Yosemite Falls yesterday, and many others enjoyed the view from Columbia Point. Split rock and the Spider Caves continue to be some of the favorite stops. We have seem plenty of wild life this week, and some groups did some field experiments. One group did water measurements of several parameters in the Merced to decide if the water was high enough quality to drink. Of course the conversation ended with the risks of giardia and the need to purify our untreated water.
In the evening, several groups have gone out for evening exploration. Although we had planned on some star gazing, the clouds just did not permit it. Last night Rotation 5 enjoyed an interactive session on Eco-Teams, and two night ago several groups had an activity and lecture on the art in Yosemite. (One of my favorites.) Rotation 4 had a wonderful evening last night enjoying the fire, warm conversation, and some group down time in the Curry Village Historic Lounge. They loved it, and Rotation 5 is looking forward to that event this evening.
Rotation 4 enjoyed at day at Badger Pass. After a little snow the sun appeared and the groups skied to Summit Meadow where they played games. Many students told me they this is was the most fun they had all week. They are a little hesitant when they leave Cupertino, but we know it is great when it is done.
I will update you later on our day in the rain. Look for my pictures on Twitter and I will post a new photo album shortly.
