A story of Local Response from Kabaale community, Uganda by Blaise
A visit to the real Entebbe
The story of Marguerite KIBURE, a 74-year-old woman, impressed everyone. Even after she became a widow, she managed to have all her children educated. When we try to discover her secret, she would only say these words, “My husband owned the land, but he was always absent. I have not sold it, and, on the contrary, I work it for my future. Thanks to that, I have built my house, my infirmary to save human lives, especially the poorest. Since I have space in my house, I have put a farm, fruit trees, tomatoes, and everything is in order. Thanks to the association, my group appreciates what I do with love. And I also appreciate the work of others, which gives me the strength to continue. I always consume local production, based on plants, I take care of myself and I contribute to the association like everyone else. I am proud of it. Your visit enchants me a lot because you have actually visited Entebbe. Others prefer hotels and nightclubs, but you prefer the community. It encourages us to continue to visit also other seniors like us. If we can keep the link, it will encourage us even more.”
When we showed appreciation through practical support, we encouraged local actions.
