value: a moral standard or principle of behaviour of a person or group;
a personal or group judgment as to what is important or valuable in life
belief: something accepted as true
worldview: a collection of beliefs about life and the universe held by an individual or group; the lens through which the world is viewed by an individual or group; the overall perspective from which the world is interpreted.
Identity!
How would you describe yourself?
What values do you hold on to as being important?
What groups do you identify with?
Do you belong to a group that you do not really feel a part of?
Before we look at the definition of Worldview, complete Personal Worldview Questionnaire.
Responses to the questionnaire.
Historical Look at Worldview
We can learn a lot from looking at folktales. These stories give us a look at the lives of people who lived during the period the story was written. It can be difficult to understand how people from different time periods interpret messages in these narratives because their values and experiences were very different from our values and experiences today.
Task: While listening to the story Hansel and Gretel, complete the chart Analyzing Worldview for one of the characters and find evidence to support your thoughts.
Characters:
Hansel
Gretel
Stepmother
Old lady
In groups of 2 or 3, discuss what your conclusions of the authors worldview might be. If needed, read over Clues to Identifying Worldview for clarification on each element.
Blank Questionnaire
From Someone Else's Perspective
While watching this video of scenes which Hermoine Granger from Harry Potter
has been captured, put yourself in her shoes and imagine what her worldview would be.
Assignment
Using the Clues for Identifying Worldview, respond to the 7 parts of Worldview through the eyes of Hermoine Granger.
Concepts of Worldview
We now understand that worldview is a collection of beliefs about life and the universe. Worldview is made up of 7 elements

Time
In what terms is time viewed by society - mechanical vs natural
Society
What roles are available to individuals in society?
Who holds power and how is power maintained
Who is status and how do they get it?
Are certain benefits available to some and not to others?
Values
How do people in a society act toward each other?
How do people in a society act toward people in other societies/groups?
Beliefs
What beliefs do people hold about life and death?
About the environment?
Economy
Who controls the resources?
What is to be produced?
How will it be produced?
For whom will it be produced?
How is property distributed? Protected?
Knowledge
How do people develop knowledge?
What ways of knowing are accepted?
Who has access to knowledge?
How is it valued?
Where or in whom does the knowledge reside?
How you responded to the Personal Worldview Questionnaire is a reflection of your worldview. This is how you look at the rest of the world. A worldview is a lens through which you interpret and interact with the world. It also explains why we choose to do or react to some things in different ways.
Using different scenarios, come up with your own actions that might take place for "people are naturally good or naturally evil".
Scenario 1: Loaning a friend some money
Scenario 2: Agreement to sell your used cell phone to another person
In your groups, find 2 more examples where you can compare the actions that might take place for "people are naturally good or naturally evil".
Assignment #2
With a partner, you will be creating an TikTok profile for a fictitious character. You can do it individually or with ONE partner.
Task 1: Using a character that is randomly generated on Characters - Motive Generator brainstorm ideas of what this characters profile might be like.
Task 2: Using Google Slides TikTok Template, create the TikTok profile. You are not limited to the information that is listed on the page. Each of the 7 elements of worldview must be found within the profile. You can use your imagination to help enhance the characters profile.
You will need to go to Workspace SS 8 Unit 1: Analyzing Worldview and review the TikTok template provided.
For those not using Hapara Workspace go to the TikTok Template and copy the template slide.
Copy the information that was generated from the generator onto slide 1. REMEMBER to delete the directions to the left of the main area.
Follow the directions for each slide.
Task 3: Your group will be given another groups character profile to analyze, using the "analyzing worldview" document.
Task 4: You will present your analysis to the remainder of the class.
