humanist - historical definition - a person who was a scholar that studied writings and arts and applied these classical ideas to their own lives
Classical Writings
Latin was the language of the Romans, and was used as the written language of scholars and the Church. As the educated people began reading more on ancient writers (such as Aristotle and Plato), there was an interest in learning more on the historical society, politics, history and the arts.
What influenced the Renaissance movement:
Classical civilization - Greek and Roman Civilization
Islamic Civilization - preserved the Classical civilization and but further developed the sciences, math and medical ideas from India and the Far East.
Education
Through learning, you can achieve great things
People must have an open, curious and questioning mind
History
The power of reason (thinking) will help you find truth for yourself
Learning from the great philisophical thinkers of history can help us progress as a human race
Mind and Body
Developing your mind, body and spirit will assist you to become skilled in many different areas
