MAP (Measures of Academic Progress)
MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) is an adaptive test which helps teachers understand where each student is at instructionally. It links to our state standards and provides teachers with an in-depth view into a student’s achievement. The assessments are in reading, math, language, and science. They give the teachers a look at where each student is academically so teachers can use the data to guide their instruction. It provides a starting point for educators to review data, and help them gain an understanding of each child’s current academic level, where they need focused instruction, and the extent of their progress. The assessments will also be utilized to make educated decisions about a student’s schedule. For example, if a student needs remediation or enrichment, the student will be placed in appropriate courses so that they are offered a rigorous curriculum in every core area.
As a district, we can gauge where are students are academically within the district and also compared to other schools in the nation. It helps us evaluate our strengths in the areas of reading, math, science, and language and also our areas that need improvement. The assessment will also give the teachers and the district a view of projected performance on the Nebraska State Assessments.
The assessments are scored utilizing a RIT scale. The RIT scale norms are based on samples of at least 20,000 students per grade K-12. The RIT scale provides a target for students at their grade level for the fall, winter, and spring benchmark. Students and parents will receive reports which highlight their RIT score and their RIT goals for future assessments.
