Release 1.5.4 is planned for a start of december 2014 for both free and full versions. It will add:
- Full screen mode for a map
Full screen will not be any kind of a compromise. All functions like setting speed limit (to change speed limit just swipe on a bottom shadowed panel) and opening menu/settings will be available here.
- Multiple live map providers (available on iOS7 and higher)
In addition to Google live map which is standard now, you are adding Apple maps and choice of other map providers like MapQuest.
Full screen map above shows Apple map used for a live map, with ability to rotate. Other Apple map capabilities are on par with Google maps, viva Apple :)!
Here is an early preview of a Map selector window:
- Custom map sources
You'll be able to point speedo maps to any map/tile server.
- Move track between trips
Accessed via new button in track details window and moves all of the track data to another trip:
- Pin track to a live map
All of the maps except for Google's will support "pinning" a track upon them, so you can follow the recorded previously track back or forward.
- Offline maps
Yep, 1.5.4 will add offline maps as well, so you can download a map while at home via wifi and no internet will be required for a map when you are off exploring! Here is a preview (just about to leave the pre-downloaded map area):
- Optionally, show something else instead of speed limits
Ability to switch between preset will stay, but you'll be able to setup speed limits area to show something else. Options will include GPS coordinates, selected trip stats (like top speed or timer) in big font and taxi tariff switches.
- Full screen and full screen map mode
- Bigger speed digits in heads-up and full screen landscape modes
Not sure we'll get 8-12 speed limit presets in for Australian users in 1.5.4 release. We'll try.
There are no problems with running speedometer as it is under iOS8. Though we have prepared few optimizations, specific to iOS8. If you have notifications setup to inform you on a speedo idle time, you'll be able to stop the track or disable backjground mode from the notification itself (remember that pull down or swipe a notification, new to iOS8 feature?):
Reminding to switch the background mode off, pull down the notification to see a "Switch off" option, no need to switch back to the app:
In notification center itself, swipe left on a notification to see a background mode "Switch off" option or a "Stop" option for a track:
