App got 1 star review not so long ago, saying everyone should fight with apps asking for "Always" location authorization as they do sell data to advertisement agencies.
1st. Your location data will never leave the app unless you export it yourself as a GPS track or a trip. App author (me) has always declined all of the offers from 3rd parties and ad agencies to do so. Your data are safe and private. 100%. Myself, I'd hate to use the app that shares any of my data without my consent.
2nd. You can always change from "Always" to "When in Use" if you visit iPhone's/iPad settings > Privacy > Location > Speedometer. There is a switch there and you can put it to "When in Use". App will function as it did with "Always", none of the app functions will be affected. That creates a bit of mystery for:
So. Why the full app asks for "Always" authorization?
The only reason is that when the app only has this "When in Use" authorization, every time when it runs in background and is not the front most app you'll see a blue banner on the top of a screen. If only this banner would be same size as the status bar! But in portrait mode it takes twice the height of a status bar and this annoys most of the users. This is just it. This banner takes that extra space from the other apps that are at front now, and not all of the apps can deal with it really nicely. Sometimes it obscures parts that would be visible otherwise.
As time goes and everyone knows that that annoying blue banner is not fault of the app using "When in Use" authorization I'd change the default to "When in Use". Or do you think I should change it to "When in Use" already? You can always email me and tell what's your preference would be.
Yours,
Stan, the app author.
