Course structure: ACC offers this course in several different formats.
Classroom: Class meets for two meetings each week. Students do a substantial amount of work outside of class, of course. ACC, as well as most other colleges, expects students to spend between 2 and 3 times as much time outside of class working on the course material as they spend in class. In a 16-week session, that means 9-12 hours per week total on the course.
Classroom course with required co-requisite MATD 0142 course:
This option is for students who need a minimal amount of extra support to take MATH 1342. Students must enroll for and do all the work of the classroom 1342 course. In addition, they meet twice a week, for approximately half an hour before or after each of the MATH 1342 classes, for extra work on study skills, organization, and support on the basic ideas.
Classroom course with required co-requisite MATD 0342 course:
This option is for students who need to take a full developmental course along with the MATH 1342 course. This gives students supportive work on each of the MATH 1342 topics as well as additional support on study skills and organization. It meets the same length of time each week as two 3-credit-hour courses.
Distance Learning : All course interactions except tests are online. Students are expected to spend about the same amount of time each week on the course as in a classroom course. In a 16-week session, that is 9-12 hours. In a 12-week session, that is 12-16 hours. Students have the same in-person access to all campus facilities and support as in-class students have. Tests are on paper in an ACC Testing Center or, for students living outside of the Austin area, an approved other testing facility. Distance Learning course structure and organization.
Hybrid: Class meets for one hour a week. Attendance is required, as in any classroom class. Students are expected to spend about the same amount of time each week on the course as in a classroom course. In a 16-week session, that is 9-12 hours. The course materials and most assignments are the same as the Distance Learning class. The material presented in the class meeting is designed to help students progress through the learning materials more efficiently than typical distance learning students do. Students find it useful to have easy access to the teacher and other students to answer questions more quickly than dealing with them all online. Hybrid course structure and organization
