The materials for the Finance section of the course are Topic K from the Math for Modeling website: http://www.austincc.edu/mparker/mfmodel/ This page has the spreadsheet workbooks to support that.
First we discuss simple and compound interest and students learn to fill in the spreadsheets in this workbook View Download Note that, having filled this out, students can investigate the effects of occasional withdrawals, for which the formula-based methods learned in other courses are not as useful. For testing, students may use my version of the filled-out sheets in the workbook: View Download
Then we discuss annuities: both savings annuities and payout annuities. The two workbooks are provided: Savings: View Download Payout: View Download
Then we discuss installment loans. In this workbook, students are given a sheet to compute payments and then learn to fill in the spreadsheet to compute the amortization table. This allows for investigation of the effects of occasional extra payments, for which the formula-based methods in other courses are not as useful. This is the workbook in which they fill it in. View Download And then here is the workbook where the amortization table is already filled in. View Download
We also use a Debt Reduction Calculator to investigate the effects of various choices in how one pays off several different installment loans (student debt, credit cars, car loans, etc.)
(Download it just below the video at https://www.vertex42.com/Calculators/debt-reduction-calculator.html )
