Structural refers to the elements in a building that are loadbearing, normally: Footings, Retaining walls, columns, load bearing walls, and slabs.
These are the items defined by the structural engineer.
Masonry: Bricks, hollow blocks, Stone
Core-filled Masonry: Concrete filled Blocks
Off-Form Concrete: Mass concrete
Pre-Formed Concrete: AFS, Dincel and other propietary systems
Steel: I beams, H beams....
Timber: Studs, Beams...
The project manager is in charge of receiving, recording in assets and listing in the SOT folder what ever is the structural documentation to follow
Structural is issued
"IN" Asset register allocated to the stakeholder
Review of documentation
Notification of status to the Stakeholder
Documentation is saved in SOT
Model Tool in the APP is updated
_LINKs are updated (CAD or Revit)
A revit file name: {Project.Code] - [Term] - 06 - Structural [YYMMDD] is created.
A copy of the Structural model is made named: {Project.Code] - [Term] - 06 - Structural [YYMMDD] - MODIFIED - [Version] - [Author] is created.
The "06 - Modified" is linked in the "03 - Architectural" , and the "03 - Architectural" is linked in the "06 - Modified"
It is easier to open architectural and modified structural always in different instances of revit, so you can works with the link models as references
For quality assurance, there are many benefits on saving versions of the linked files/models, however there is one main con and that is the need to relink these updated versions with the risk of missing a more updated version of a file.
It is the responsibility of the person using a file, prior to starting modelling to check: Keynote file and Linked modes, and relink these items if necessary
Structural elements require to have openings as holes, exactly the way is going to be built, this means that the hole must be created in the Modified model at the exact location. (this is real life guys!)
Finishes and linings are modelled as walls around structural elements.
It is key to have views ready to print that demostrate the source of information and the departures from it.
This views will need to be
The structural modified vs the structural as received
this is a view that underlays the structural files as received by the structural engineer (normally cad format)
The structural modified over the Architecture
This views show the architecture greyed out and demostrate how the modified structure adapts to the requirements of the architecture.
