Novembers Advisory board meeting included a workshop session looking at the General Employability Profile and what we should improve on. It was very productive with a lot of feedback. There were four groups, and each group looked at 4 or 5 questions and provided feedback on them. This is the notes taken from them and some of the conversations had. The first part is general, and then goes question by question. I am going to turn comments on for this page, so that people can submit further feedback. I would like to get these updated and done by Thanksgiving Break, so if people could finish their feedback by November 19th that would be great.
General Discussions –
Are 18 categories too much?
Students my get overwhelmed by how many items they are rated on.
We can look into this, but we also want to make sure we cover all the topics required by the NYSED Employability Profile are covered so that students can use it for the CDOS if necessary.
Language could be simplified/defined. Examples- “Critical Thinking” “Attends” “Needs to be brought down a notch.”
May want to include a student self-evaluation.
Possible adding a question about reading and understand contract/code of conduct so they know what expectations are.
There was also some concern about this being too much for an employer to fill out. Suggestions for a much smaller, quick 1 pager was made.
Because each group may not have seen each question, we definitely need to continue the discussion through the board. Please provide feedback on this page. I will update the profiles based on this work by thanksgiving break.
