News and updates: (newest Items Listed first)
- One of our more popular Career Fair Participants, SYSCO, is sponsoring a field trip for Ms. Macey and the culinary department. They have also decided to join our advisory board. Thank you to them! Pictures will follow.
- The career fair was amazing and there were many opportunities that our students learned about. Pictures will follow soon. We are going to do one again in the spring also. Stay tuned for updates.
- Advisory board member Mark Sheehan (really one of the founding members, so enough cannot be said about all he does for us) has hit the ground running with the journey to success program that he started. We are going to be having a career fair as part of that. We are still looking for people interested in participating. Please email me, keoughj@schenectady.k12.ny.us and I will get you the information you need.
- Four of our teachers from SCLA and SHS attended the New York State CTE conference in Syracuse at the beginning of the summer. We had an opportunity to meet with many of our colleagues from across the state and attended various workshops while there. We all thought it was well worth our time. A synopsis that I sent in to the SCSD administration can be viewed here.
- We had a great time at the Schenectady Educational Foundation Gala.
- I added a new section to the website. It is a page dedicated to recruiting and retaining Advisory board members. The page itself is a digital copy of the hard copies that I will be giving out to prospective members.
- The first annual Advisory Board meeting will be on November 3rd starting at 6:00 in the SCLA library with a light dinner preceding it at 5:30. The Agenda can be found here.
- The Harvest Dance was reportedly a great deal of fun. See Mr. Delguadio for pictures and details.
- Don't forget the Harvest Dance is coming up. For details see Mr. Delguadio in the main office.
- A little bit of personal news that bears reporting. Mr. Harwood's favorite team, the Cleveland Indians, have made it to the world series. I know I can speak for a couple of the lifelong Yankee fans in the building when I say we are rooting for Cleveland, all the way.
- Back to school night combined with our Harvest Dinner was a nice idea. Parents were able to get a nice meal to go with the news about their students. Which other schools offer homemade corn chowder?
- The year is off to a great start. Ms. Macey has already taken the culinary students along with some other invites students to Bowman's Apple Orchard for an excellent trip. Can't wait to sample the tastes of fall.
- Unfortunately, SCLA lost a very important member of our staff over the summer. Rick Harwood, one of our paraprofessionals (and my uncle) passed away over the summer. His good natured humor and calming demeanor will be missed by students and staff alike. Any staff or students feeling the need to can contact the PPS department (Ms. Thornhill, Ms. Keimel, Mr. Delgaudio, etc.) to help them through this. They can also feel free to contact me as well. (Mr. Keough.)
