Lutheranism

Holy Eucharist

· Instituted by Christ

· In, with and under the bread and wine are given the TRUE Body and Blood of Christ which was given into death for the forgiveness of sins.

· Forgiveness of Sins is given to those who believe, and judgment is given to those who eat and drink yet do not believe. (1 Corinthians 11:27-29)

· The supper is a confession of Faith (1 Cor. 11:26)

· The Supper comforts souls and strengthens the believer’s faith for service.

· Communion is celebrated often.

UMC

Lord's Supper

· Instituted by Christ

· Wine is not used, but only grape juice.

· Because the Lord’s Supper is a sign, there is no forgiveness given, hence it is not a means of grace.

· Christ’s true body and true blood are not present.

· Communion is viewed as a family meal in which all Christians from any denomination may join.

· There is no judgement against those who partake in an unworthy manner (without faith).

Communion is usually celebrated once a month
