What does "evangelical" mean?

Evangelical is a term meaning loyal to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Lutherans were the first to be called "evangelicals" and are still often referred to as such in Germany. We proudly preach Christ and Him crucified for sinners. We are not a part of the liberal and biblically unsound Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, which is neither evagelical nor Lutheran. It is an unfortunate consequence of our fallen world that people pervert words and the Word of God, but we still hold firm our loyalty to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and confessional, Lutheran doctrine.
