Lutheranism

Man

· The doctrine of man is presented under two aspects. 1) Man is God’s creation, 2) Since the fall man is totally corrupt (sinful) and unable to contribute towards His salvation. (Genesis 1-3, Romans 5)

Man is dead in sin. (Colossians 2:13) Man does not have free will. (1 Cor. 2:14; AC XVIII)

Infants are sinners just as much as adults. This is obvious because the “wages of sin is death” and we know that infants die.

SBC

Man

· Man is God’s special creation, created in His own Image.

· Man was innocent of sin prior to the fall. By His free choice he sinned against God and brought sin into the human race.

Man, however is not considered a transgressor of the Law (sinner) until he has reached the age whereby he is capable of moral action (age of accountability-uncertain, debated).

· Logically this would mean that children incapable of moral action are innocent of sin which condemns to hell.

Because of the freedom of soul of man, man is able to choose God.
