    • Stephen Chipman was born in Johnstown, Leeds Co., Ontario, Canada August 8, 1805. He died in American Fork, Utah, February 17, 1868. Father of 13 children he joined the church in Canada and left there with his [first] wife Amanda and four young children to join the main body of the saints in Missouri. By the winter of 1846, they moved with the exodus of the saints from Nauvoo to Winter Quarters leaving there June 21, 1847 for their Westward trek arriving in the Great Salt Lake Valley September 25 (Jour. Hist.). They located in Millcreek. In 1850 the family moved with the first settlers to American Fork, Utah. Stephen was well prepared for the hardships of a successful pioneer.     • Phoebe Davis was a convert from England who migrated to New Orleans with her parents arriving there in April 1849. They joined with the other saints at Council Bluffs in June for the march toward the Rocky Mountains under the direction of Orson Spencer. The family located at Millcreek where Phoebe met Stephen Chipman. She died a widow in her 44th year leaving four young children in the care of her oldest daughter, Phoebe Adelaide, who married Niels Christensen three months later.
