Colonel John Whiting and Jerusha Lord

Colonel John Whiting was born on December 15, 1693 in Hartford, Connecticut and died on February 12, 1766 in Hartford, Connecticut. He was the son of Joseph Whiting and Anne Allyn.

John married Jerusha Lord. Jerusha was born on February 25, 1699 in Hartford, Connecticut. She was the daughter of Richard Lord, III and Abigail Warren. She died on October 21, 1776 in Windsor, Hartford, Connecticut.

John succeeded his father in 1717 as treasurer of the colony, holding the office for thirty-two years. He was a merchant in Hartford and a man of wealth and standing. He was Captain of the Troop of Horse in Hartford County in May of 1730. He was Colonel of the First Regiment in October 1741 and a Member of the Council of War in 1745. He commanded a regiment in the French and Indian wars (1754-1760).
