John Hulet and Sarah Searles

John is the son of Michael Howlett and Experience Newton. John was born about 1713 in Killingly, Windham, Connecticut.

The war against the French and Indians was fought in 1754 to 1763. John was a soldier in that war. The Indians from Canada has been coming south on Lake Champlain and killing Americans. Berkshire County in West Massachusetts had not been settled, but now that the war was won, John purchased land in Lee, Berkshire County in 1760. He moved his family there in 1761 to live in the township of Tyringham. It had been incorporated and named about ten years earlier. John and Sarah were members of the old Congregational Church in Tyringham which they joined in 1771.

After the Revolutionary War in which four of John and Sarah’s sons served, their children at least, moved to Lee, a new township just north of Tyringham. The sons soon married and had families of their own. No more is known about John and Sarah.
