Judith’s father, John Deland III of Charlestown fought at Bunker Hill. He was unable to retreat fast enough. He was captured and died on board a British prison ship during the war. Judith and Walter sold property in Cambridge in 1783 and 1786. There were financial problems in the family. She and Walter must have separated. Tradition says that Walter moved to New York. Judith must have gone back to Charlestown. The record is that she and her sons William and Johnathan Upham Cox were in straightened circumstances in Charlestown on March 5, 1807. It is assumed that Judith died shortly after that.
