In Memory A Path; by Dawn Ziegler

A path was wore into the ground.

Many a feet have trod it down.

Its life began some time ago,

early in the spring, or so.

Feet did come to step upon

the new grown grass, no not a lawn.

The dirt was soft and it packed down

then hardened into dusty ground.

It wove around a thistle crown,

and dodged a small earthen mound.

It kept the course, though not quite true,

through many a field, both old and new.

It wound and dipped and turned a few.

It rose a bit to make a view.

Mountain bikes have rode it too,

and jumped the dips and fell a few.

Some trash was littered near the path.

Old notes from school, a can, a spool,

the wrappers left from chewing gum.

When winter'd come the green renewed,

puddles formed a pond or two.

Tadpoles swam in the muddy depth.

Where little kids with coffee cans,

did fish the pools and prized their catch.

The path was vague but still remained

ingrained into the earth below.

The edges of the path will fade,

and then in spring will be remade.

Dawn's poems are so moving. Where did she go to bring about such pretty prose?

She told me about the first writing critique group meeting she attended with Wally in San Jose area. She brought nothing to be critiqued so she stood up and recited a poem she had written (from memory) to the group of strangers. The moderator of the group was so impressed by the poem and Dawn's delivery that she told Dawn "you must publish that one, immediately!" Dawn was so happy to get such positive feedback from people she had just met.

I don't remember what the poem was, I think it had to do with cats...

As always, I am thankful to have had Dawn as my close freind, she continually inspires me. She didn't have to recite that poem, she could have chickened out and sat silent. But no not Dawn, Fearless as always!

I miss her.

warm hugs,

SueB.

Dawn's Birthday is this weekend and a friend from England took a picture today. I thought Dawn would like it and added it to her poem.

We all think about you every day and miss you so much!

Happy Birthday.

Dad

I thank her every day for the gifts her friendship continues to give me...

First and foremost, Christine... My dear God-Sister, her Gift of Christine to me has given me now two unbelievably fortunate opportunities to in my life feel such profound kin-ship and love in a friendship that can only be called family.

A great gift I have also received in the raw Truth of needing to live my Life RIGHT NOW. Doing what I set out to do so very long ago and now finally have the most dearly learned lesson of motivation as to why I must put everything that I am into achieving my Dreams RIGHT NOW.

We were together in our hearts on our birthdays this last November and my odd pea pal is holding my heart through this time, as well. Every day.

Love to all, joyous holiday filled with love and fondest of remembrances...
