SPCA and Memorial Garden

The first time that I met Dawn, I was a week-old employee at McGraw Hill and some employees had gotten together for happy hour. I was a bit tipsy but remember Dawn laughing and being loud and I said "oh, she's wasted" and she said, "I haven't even had a drink yet!!!!".

I am reminded of Dawn every morning when I see Elaine(her mom) at work but it used to be the reverse. I bowled with Dawn and I would come in after a bowling night and tell Elaine how Dawn made the same exact faces as her, the same gestures or had the same sarcastic remake. It was uncanny.

The first time my husband met Dawn he said he hadn't realized that Elaine was Scottish. I didn't have a clue what he was talking about until Dawn came over and starting talking and she had this accent-she said she was "practicing" her accent for some up coming event. Sometimes she would be chatting with us and then in mid-sentence walk away and pick up her notebook to write something down. She left my husband speechless...

I am writing because I wanted to note the progress we are making on the SPCA and the memorial garden. The landscapers have actually begun work on the gardens. In order to have a memorial bench placed in the gardens we have to raise $5000 in donations. We have reached a little over $1500 and are still going. I have been making inquiries to McGraw Hill to see if they will make an exception to policy and match our contribution. I am hopeful.

I never saw Dawn without a smile and that's the way I'll always remember her...I'm lucky because everytime I see Elaine smile I can still see Dawn. J

Janelle,

Hey, my sister left me speechless too. There was basically no drummer who could keep up with Dawn; so, as I see it, she danced to her own music instead of marching to anyone else's drummer.

Can you provide us with any doantion instructions? I would like to donate toward the bench and park project. Any chance of a link to the location/a map to the location?

Appreciating you and your husband's efforts,

Chris

hello Janelle,

Yes, I too would be interested in donating to the garden bench. Thanks so much for keeping up with it. Please post more info.

I must confess that Dawn would drive me nuts with the accents. She would start up and then I would catch myself turning a phrase, I tend to pick up accents without even realizing it. Then I'd get mad and hit her, she was rubbing off on me the brat. I would beg her to stop because it was so contagious. She of course would laugh and laugh. Laughing

We were at the ren faire one year and we met a vendor who thought the accent was real. She was so surprised when Dawn told her in her normal voice that she was just playing. I was the speechless one, the woman had lived in Australia for years and asked Dawn what province she was from and how long had she been in the states.

take care,

SueB.
